Hi everyone,

One of my first issues was swallowing difficulties. This has not improved at all since I have been treating 14 months with a great llmd. I have done a search on this and asked about this before, and have read that this is often a babs symptom. Anyways, I did test positive for babs and I just starting treating for it.- Rocephin, Zith, Malarone, Plaquenil. This is my third day on Malarone. My llmd started me with a high dose these first three days and then tomorrow I am supposed to back down to a more normal dose and continue that daily.

So anyways, I am feeling like the swallowing problem is a lot worse right now since I started the Malarone. Is this a herx and has anyone experienced anything like this with regards to the swallowing issue? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much,

does it hurt or is it more muscle not cooperating

Are other issues getting better?/

I had difficult swallowing for a short time,,,it was when Babs was really worse and treating,,

Think it just pi___d them off ...For me there is a cough syrup I use for the dry cough that goes with this, or throat is tight..

Also muscle, reminds me of magnesium.. Doesn't sound connected.

It's just that lot's of muscle issue and pain has been helped with Mag, or D3,or potassium >I go low on that often<

Hope you're better soon.. What did LLMD say??

Were you sick long? Is treatment going well, other than this??

How much malarone is a high dose? Any artemesia in your future?

Things are never dull. After 3 fighting Lyme, 2 are in remission. Youngest is still sick, age 22. He has new diagnosed Chiari Malformation and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.

Hubby never really had problems swallowing, but he has episodes where he could not talk. It was usually as a result of severe muscle tightness.

These episodes were always very neurological in nature and went along with the Parkinsonian tremors and myoclonus and dystonia. Most of the worst episodes were due to either babs or bart herxes.

I do not think his symptoms had anything to do with magnesium issues. Pretty sure they were due to either brain inflammation or hypoperfusion (lack of sufficient oxygen to the brain).

I had this happen after a severe relapse. I went back on antibiotics, Malarone, etc.. and had a horrific herx.

I was so hungry, eating constantly, losing a pound a day, and I remember feeling like I was swallowing a golf ball.

I would eat hanging over the kitchen sink because I could barely stand up and the golf ball in my throat feeling was so bad.

It did resolve pretty quickly though. I hope it let's up for you soon. If it does you will know it has worsened from a herx.

If it doesn't let up it could be reflux. An ENT could diagnose this for you....

Just a thought - I had difficulty swallowing years ago and before Lyme. It was caused by a severe case of acid reflux.

You are on a lot of meds - could it be possible that they are causing some reflux?

Well, I def have acid reflux in addition. What did your swallowing issue feel like and how long did it go on for? I am having a motility study done next week. Has anyone ever had one of those?
