I assume she is - or will soon be treated by an ILADS-educated MD. ?

For support measures (or if a LLMD is not an option):

It's best to consult with an ILADS-educated LL doctor who has had 4 years of post-graduate medical education in the field of herbal and nutritional medicine -- and someone who is current with ILADS' research.

http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/2/13964

How to find an ILADS-educated LL:

N.D. (Naturopathic Doctor);

L.Ac. (Acupuncturist);

D.Ay. (Doctor of Ayurvedic Medicine);

D.O.M. (Doctor of Oriental Medicine);

Integrative / Holistic M.D., etc. (but be aware many in this category are not formally educated in herbal medicine; they may have only had a few classes.)

Links to many articles and books by holistic-minded LL doctors of various degrees who all have this basic approach in common:

Understanding of the importance of addressing the infection(s) fully head-on with specific measures;

Knowing that support supplements are important, but NEVER enough alone. And knowing which supplements have direct impact, which are only support and which are both.

You can compare and contrast many approaches.

You might get more replies if you add "CHILD" to your "headline"

The edit function is that tiny paper and pencil, just above your first post. The heading can be edited the same as the text.

So that other can have more detail and form a better reply, I hope you don't mind that I'm transferring your post from "Seeking a Doctor"

You posted on April 9 in reference to 11 year old:
----------------------------------

MY daughter is sick and getting worse- started with sudden onset of joint pain and swelling- diagnosed JRA, but had sweats and bone pain too.

Recently has become incredibly anxious, refusing to go to school and

we took her to Pysch who put her on anxiety/depression medication and now she is having episodes of suicidal thoughts, intense pain and involuntary joint movement.

She did have a rash on her hairline in august 11, and spends her summer in Fire Island and North Fork, LI.

Her antibodies are showing negative for Lyme. I would love any advice.

First, sounds like her test was an ELISA. That's terribly inferior. More about testing in the "Diagnosing" link below but first:

(27) REASONS WHY A SERONEGATIVE TEST RESULT MIGHT OCCUR

--------------------

I'm so sorry to hear about what your daughter is going through.

I'm sure she is very brave in this frightening situation. Be sure she knows that this can get better.

As an adult, I had terrible reactions to various psych meds - they were just so toxic to my system. My symptoms were not really psych symptoms but neurological symptoms due to toxicity.

Lyme is very toxic and to add medicines that pose their own levels of toxicity can overwhelm the liver and make things worse.

She should also be assessed for Bartonella as that can really affect mood.

I hope she can find a LLMD soon.

The Human Side of Lyme

- explores the neurological and toxic ways that lyme and other tick-borne infections can affect emotions.

=====================

Especially for someone with lyme, these kinds of additives can cause "psych" symptoms:

Other tick-borne infections and other chronic stealth infections - as well as certain conditions - that can hold us back are discussed here.

(What ILADS is) . . . WHY you need an ILADS-educated, Lyme Literate Doctor - starting with assessment / evaluation.

I forgot to mentions that, especially for mood drugs, lyme patients can be extremely sensitive to even very tiny doses. I never could tolerate even the slightest dose. Side effects can be much worse.

Did much better with magnesium, fish oil, gluten-free diet, and certain herbal formulas.

Magnesium deficiency can cause many mood changes and magnesium deficiency is very common with lyme.

Heavy Metals should also be assessed as they can cause mood changes.

Be sure to take plenty of Milk Thistle (Silymarin) to help the liver deal with stress of antibiotics.

Be sure to take plenty of pro-biotics (like acidophilus) to replenish gut bacteria. The normal, healthy gut bacteria are under constant attack from antibiotics. To avoid gut disaster, take frequent, high doses of high-quality gut flora (like acidophilus).

Take quickly chopped raw garlic swallowed with water after a meal, if you can tolerate it.
