I started taking Zithromax 250 mg twice a day and Rifampin 150 mg twice a day. Have been on this dose for since Friday.
I am feeling one of my earlier symptoms which is tight jaw and throat and stiff tongue. Lots of muscle tingling and vibration. Is this a herx?
Is this Bart of Lyme?
Can I take xanax if I am taking Rifampin? Everyone where I read it says its contraindicated. Please help I am very anxious!!!

Again I am not a doctor. It's contradicted bc the rifiampin lowers the concentration of Xanax. So yes you can take them together in my experience.

I've taken them together. Tricia is correct.

Maybe Xanax is differenet, but my understanding is that the benzos are just not effective. Don't think they're contraindicated ie) they don't interfere with the rifampin. Ut;s the other way around.
I had to give up the rifampin because couldn't toldrate the anxiety when clonazepam and ambien stopped working as well.
I regretted stopping rifamin because I was improving on it at about 4 weeks.
A list of drugs it interacts with:
Many drugs can interact with rifampin. Below is just a partial list. Tell your doctor if you are using:
acetaminophen (Tylenol); a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin); a barbiturate such as phenobarbital (Solfoton); diazepam (Valium) or similar medicines such as alprazolam (Xanax), chlordiazepoxide (Librium), midazolam (Versed), temazepam (Restoril), triazolam (Halcion), and others; a beta-blocker such as atenolol (Tenormin), bisoprolol (Zebeta, Ziac), labetalol (Normodyne, Trandate), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol), propranolol (Inderal, InnoPran), timolol (Blocadren), and others; clofibrate (Atromid-S); steroids such as prednisone, fluticasone (Advair), mometasone (Asmanex, Nasonex), dexamethasone (Decadron, Hexadrol) and others; birth control pills or estrogen hormone replacement; heart medicines such as digoxin (Lanoxin), disopyramide (Norpace), quinidine (Quinaglute, Quinidex), mexiletine (Mexitil), tocainide (Tonocard), verapamil (Calan, Verelan, Isoptin), or enalapril (Vasotec); HIV medicines such as delavirdine (Rescriptor), saquinavir (Invirase, Fortovase), ritonavir (Norvir), nelfinavir (Viracept), and others; ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), or fluconazole (Diflucan); methadone (Dolophine); phenytoin (Dilantin), ethotoin (Peganone), and mephenytoin (Mesantoin); sulfa drugs (Bactrim, Gantanol, Septra, and others); diabetes medication you take by mouth; cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral); or theophylline (Elixophyllin, TheoCap, Theochron, Uniphyl).
You could talk to your pharmacist. They can advise better than doctors. Trouble was mine wouldn't listen and increase like pharm said.
