Morning. Was having neck issues. Went to dr and he ordered MRI which showed neck /disc issues. So went to ortho who suggested pt and Advil. Then if that didn't work, cortisone pills.
So doing pt twice a week. Helping but slow.
My question,,,how long does it take?
What about cortisone pills? I know about risks of steroids. I also need to work due to bills, mortgage, daughter in college and the pain is annoying.

oh jancice. dont do cortisone and now i am very leary of PT
i cant sit long enough to type much...can you search on here about sammy...she has been going thru awful disc problems
i just stupidly tried a topical steroid at PT and am still recovering from crash 3 weeks ago...otheres doing PT for shoulder say it could take 3 yrs and then no guarentee...i just quit PT after 6 weeks - it made both my shoulder and knees worse---put me back in wheel chair
its been quiet around here---guess that is why you didnt get an answer. but please do some searches...cortisone is steroids and often does us in
good luck...search PT also...there are posts about PT and not discs that could be relevant

Acupuncture is your best option. I have herniated discs in my neck from an accident and that makes a huge difference. Muscle relaxers at bedtime can help the muscle tightness.
I did better looking up exercises to strengthen my neck and shoulder muscles which are affected by an injury to the neck.
Then you can try to do what is comfortable for you at your own pace.

Did your pt mention gentle traction? that can help take some pressure of the discs. The overhead model is too aggressive in my opinion, and hard to get positioned just right.
They have ones you can use lying down, or someone(pt or someone they train) can do it manually.

And last winter I had 4 slipped discs at once- 2 lumbar and 2 mid-back. I couldn't sit, lay, or walk without severe pain.
Sleep is the number one thing that helps me- the pain wakes you up more than you think it does and you need sleep to heal
Last winter, I had to take narcotics to relax enough to sleep.
This time I can get by with ibuprofen, cayenne, and biofreeze
I don't find acupuncture helpful for disc issues. I've done a lot of acupuncture and it helps my stress, headaches, hormones, and other things, but it's too difficult to lay still with disc pain.
Last time, it took 6 months for the discs to heal and that is with me being very careful not to lift anything over 10-15 lbs.
This time it's been about 3 months and the worst of the pain has gone but I'm still being careful.
Other things I've found useful:
inversion table lumbar stretching table birthing ball to do slow stretches Biofreeze TENS-unit heat/ice alternating cayenne for pain ibuprofen
