An eight year-old boy who was diagnosed with lymes disease two years ago - treated with 21 days of antibiodics - is now blinking his eyes involuntarily. His doctor says it is transient childhood tic. He has also been clearing his throat in a similar manner - in an ocd way.

I know that the bacteria target the nervous system. Please advise on ways to stop this nervous system damage and heal the nerves. Anyone with similar stories would very helpful. I have lymes disease and was asked to do some research for a friend. Thank you very much.

Hi Christine,

Those two ticks are classic Tourette's ticks. Many people think strep is to blame for Tourettes.

21 days of antibiotics is not thought by LLMD's to be adequate treatment for lyme and this child need to see a lyme literate health care professional as soon as possible.

Lyme and strep can cause a PANDAS and cause lots of damage.

Please encourage that family to get good medical help immediately.

My 7 yo son had exactly the same presentation recently - a blinking tic following Lyme disease 2 years ago. What was the outcome for your child? We are only starting to deal with this now...

Our daughter's Tourette's symptoms (both motor and vocal tics for more than 1 year) resolved with bartonella (a possible coinfection of lyme) treatment.
