Hello all.

Got some lab tests done. I would like your opinions.

I have thought my thyroid was not working right so I had it tested.

The test is a TSH test. It says the reference range is 0.270-4.200. My test result is 1.973.

My regular doctor says that this is normal and there is no need to do any further testing.

My cholesterol results are:
CHOL 237
HDL 56.0
LDL 158.2
TGL 114
RISK 4.2

For several reasons I feel like I do have problems with my thyroid.

I don't have a problem with my cholesterol. The doctor said it wasn't high enough to take medication. She said it would be nice if I could get it down a bit.

Any comments on these numbers?

You could try an Integrative Medicine physician and have the Thyroid tested again with a more comprehensive test. They would check your T3, T4, free T3, free T4, and reverse T3.

I feel better when my TSH is closer to 1.0 .

Hi carolann2013. You need to have the Free T3, Free T4 (besides the T3 and T4) and thyroid antibodies done. When antibodies are elevated it can indicate Hashimoto's.

As I have said before, I had hypothyroid symptoms for YEARS. Doctors kept telling me my results were normal. Finally a doctor ran the antibody tests. One result should be 0-30 to be normal, and mine was over 2000! This meant that I had Hashimoto's and my body was attacking the thyroid gland. Often people who have Hashimoto's have normal results, but treatment is still warranted.

Also, there is a lot of room to work within the normal range. For me, I feel the best when the Free T3 and Free T4 are in the upper one-third of the range.

I had consistently high cholesterol for years that was not diet or heredity related. I kept saying it was because I was hypo. When I finally found a good doctor and got properly treated, my cholesterol dropped into the mid-normal range! It can be very difficult to find a good thyroid doctor, but they do exist.

Here are a couple of good thyroid disease sites:

Stop the Thyroid Madness http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/

About.com Thyroid Disease http://thyroid.about.com/

I don't know if you have seen this chart, "Signs and Symptoms: Adrenal Fatigue vs. Low Thyroid Function" at
http://www.drrind.com/therapies/metabolic-symptoms-matrix There is a lot of great information here.

Goodness! I have all the symptoms...except dry and coarse hair. My hair is blonde and very soft and fine. That is about the only thing that doesn't pertain to me.

I have had a steady weight gain for about three years now. I have gained about 20 pounds since the first of the year.

Upset about the Lyme, but I am totally upset about the weight gain!

Will the LLMD doctor give the proper thyroid test?

You can ask your Lyme doctor if he/she will run them. Be sure to ask for all the ones listed. Be aware though that many doctors do not treat it optimally.

What does that mean Sammi? "optimally"?

From my experience, many doctors under-treat.
