This is probably different from your situation, but I had strep several months ago. Sore throat that wouldn't go away. They did a strep test quickie and gave me Rx for Penicillin VK for ten days. That did the trick.

Not sure what strep in urine means though.

Of course the enteroccorcus(sp) is from that strep family. So you have all their kin and in-laws in your urinary tract.

I hope you find something soon. I'm doing great with that rife frequency.

Yes, I had strep B colonization in my bladder and elsewhere as well.

No wonder you've been having such a hard time with IC lately-it's like a busload of bugs in your bladder! Ouch! I feel so bad for you-IC is the worst.

I think strep B and ent are biofilm bugs...hard to get rid of.

I am sorry to keep harping on it... But d'mannose made all the difference for me.

I think I had IV Vanco as well... Then IV gentamycin I think.

Is the doc able to get you in for IV Vanco? It's got some other serious side effects-has to be done in hopsital.

I have Strep D and still have not been able to get rid of it. I don't know if that is what causes the horrid pain or if it is Chronic Pelvic Pain.

I am sorry - it hurts and it gets old FAST!

Tricia-yes, that's what got rid of it for me. I can't find my calendar for 2008...I've got everything written down. How many days IV. And I can't remember which came first-the Vanco or the genta... But I know I had 2 different IV abx back to back, then I used the d mannose and uva ursi.

I am saying huge prayers for you...IC is the absolute worst, and I am sorry you've been suffering with it for so long.

What does your doc want to treat it with?

Ugh I am getting so frustrated.

MY LLNP says just take one amox and one augmentin a day and it will clear it up! HI! i have been on that for 3 months already and still testing postive! Kind of a problem! I havent heard from LLMD yet....

I am thinking Strep B could have been the problem the whole time! Wouldnt that be amazing!

Strep is no joke (like Lyme is, right?)

But what I mean is, your strep is not clearing- you are going to have to get hard core with this Dr. or step over this one to the next

like Greta says, get IV. Start talking rheumatic fever, kidney failures, this is what rouge strep can do.

I'm so sorry. This is crazy how long, how much pain-
Demand IV to clear it. My advice.

Well the Strep D showed in a regular urine culture but the STREP B didnt show up until a broth culture.

Now I am so scared.

Don't be scared, get mad, and demand. This can be fixed. You tell them it's clear you have resistant, multiple strep strains, how long going on, etc.

Sending good thoughts----

Okay, why are you combining Amoxicillin with Augmentin?!

Augmentin is amoxicillin, but with a clavunanate with it.

An LLNP is helping you, can you get to an MD? With all your tests, history, pain, life altering experiences because of this?

You need an MD specialist- I'm sorry if you've done this already and struck out-

Assuming you have medical insurance...call your insurance company for recommendation, or go to ER with all your tests?

I don't have any experience with IC, but do have a lot with strep. If you have resistant strains (and Amoxicillin is very weak for strep, unless a child with first time use, and even then, just maybe)

You need a big gun antibiotic. JMO.

Can a LLND order a broth culture? Does anyone know the mediccal code for such a test? I am thinking my Llnd could direct the mainstream lab to look for bugs, just not sure how its done. Just finished a round of antibiotics for e. coli which they could find by normal culture. When I complained to the urologist's receptionist that they don't test for everything, she said if there was an infection, the usual method would find it.

This is the first time anything is showing up, I had been to two urogyncologist and a urologist. My Lyme Doc sent me there just to rule out anything strange nothing showed up for one year. So then my LLMD suggested maybe I see an LLNP in DC who works with IC. Im not sure if things never showed up bc I was ABX. and this time I had 10 days off. I dont act like the regular IC patient coffe and spices dont bother me.Then MY LLNP in DC has me take a week os abx and a standard lab corp test showed colony forming units see below lab corp:

-Result 1
Enterococcus species

NOTES on 'Result 1':
'10,000-25,000 colony forming units per mL
'Note: this isolate is vancomycin-susceptible.
'This information is provided for epidemiologic purposes
'only: vancomycin is not among the antibiotics
'recommended for therapy of urinary tract infections
'caused by Enterococcus.

Antimicrobial Susceptibility
NOTES on 'Antimicrobial Susceptibility':
' ***** S = Susceptible; I = Intermediate; R = Resistant *****

Source: UR CD- M626744042
Condition: 08/05/2013 12:55:22 08/05/2013 10:08:00
' P = Positive; N = Negative
' MICS are expressed in micrograms per mL
' Antibiotic RSLT#1 RSLT#2 RSLT#3 RSLT#4
'Ciprofloxacin I
'Levofloxacin S
'Nitrofurantoin S
'Penicillin S
'Tetracycline R
'Vancomycin S
'

So then we decided to do one pill of augmentin and one pill of amox per my LLNP in DC,

I also had the lab sent to United Medical Labs in Virgina. This is what they came back with:

Test Name Result U
CULTURE, FUNGUS (YEAST) NEGATIVE

CULTURE, URINE
>100,000 CFU/mL GROUP B STREP AMPICILLIN/AMOXICILLIN S
CLYNDAMYCIN R
CIPROFLOXACIN R
CEFTRIAXONE R
ERYTHROMYCIN R
NITROFURANTOIN S
TETRACYCLINE R
VANCOMYCIN S

BROTH GROUP B STREP POSTIVE
AMPICILLIN/AMOXICILLIN R
CLYNDAMYCIN R
CIPROFLOXACIN R
CEFTRIAXONE R
ERYTHROMYCIN R
NITROFURANTOIN S
TETRACYCLINE R
VANCOMYCINs S

So I am so confused!

Look, I am not a Dr. I am not an expert, but, bottom line,
I'd ask for 3 weeks of Vancomycin and wipe this thing out.
Saturate yourself with probiotics away from Vanco.

Test 1 is saying your are positive for a bacteria that is Vancomycin susceptible, although usually they don't require Vanco. for this type of classification.

That tells me (layman) it's a hardy, nasty strain. Vanco is top dog.

2nd type, also says Vanco will wipe it out. The first line (weaker) antibiotics you have been on are not working- so then, you culture to see what will (like you've had done)

and go up the line. My daughter had a wicked bacteria a few years ago- not c. diff., couldn't get that to show up on testing.

A specialized Dr. told me 3 weeks of Vancomycin, because oftentimes with 1 or 2 weeks of it, you may have to come back, try it longer.

Did the oral Vanco for 3 weeks, gone.
Just some thoughts- this has been going on and on for you....
I'm sorry.

Tricia -
coffee and spices, etc don't bother me either....the last "specialist" said.."well then you don't have IC"....

So I guess the other 1000 symptoms don't count...

I just gave him a dufus award and left.

Gang this is one resistant bacteria. Yesterday I had to go without a rife tx. This morning the pressure, stinging and bad guys are having a field day.

Back to knocking 'em today. Die enterococcus die!

about the group b strep....this was found in my urine when I was ready to give birth

does this mean that I will always have it? The dr/nurses acted like it was no big deal, that a lot of women have it and just had to have antibiotics at that time.
