I've been on Rifampin and Minocycline since July... finally in November I started doing amazing. However, last week my doc increased my rifampin from 2 pills 1x a day to 2 pills 2x a day. The head pressure has been coming back and has been awful.... head pressure, ears popping/full feeling, sinus pressure on bridge of nose (no congestion or snot, just pressure) and heart pain is back.

Do you guys think the bart is angry, if this is just a long continuous herx cycle, or that it was just a coincidence and that its not bart? Feeling so discouraged... [Frown]

I am also on A-INFLAM and this plus other supplements:

Sometimes I wonder if I am ever going to be better.. it has been over a year. I sit here and see what my grandfather is going through at the age of 85. He has a clear diagnosis (cancer) but I wonder whats in store for me when I am older after all of this.... problems due to lyme, damage done by antibiotics, etc... I am only 23 and it is scary.

I too am on Rif and Mono, and also Plaquinel. I take one of each pill 2x/day. You probably got the Bart bugs real pissed off, or Babs may be surfacing.

Try backing off to 2 pill once a day for a few days and see how you do. Then phase in only one additional pill for a week to see how you react before doubling the dose.

You have been treating for only a little over a year. That is not that long for treating Lyme and co's. Most people here have been treating 3 or more years.

Hope this helps

Hi there,

I am on rifampin, zith and ceftriaxone.

When I was at 300mg daily rif, I herxed something fierce.

It lasted about 10 days.

Then I doubled it.

Also added in ceftriaxone.

This last two weeks have been herxing my face off again. But seems to me lots of us with bart as our main bad guy have been having terrible last two weeks.

I think there's a good chance you're herxing.

If one has widespread bartonella, then the bacteria count must be quite high.

If you can't handle the head pressurre (and really, who can-head pressure is awful!), I would do what gmb suggested and titrate down a pill until it passes.

Thinking of you.

Thank you. I should have just waited until after the holidays. I am going to decrease tomorrow... The pressure right now is the worse that it has been in a long time! My head feels like a balloon it's crazy.

I truly hope this is all a herx and that Bart is the cause of the pressure.

I had terrible head pressure, ear issues, facial pain/numbness from Babs. Both Babs and Bart can cause head pressure but mine went away with Babs treatment.

Does it feel like your brain is inflamed and your skull is shrinking?

Even though it is not sinus related I found Mucinex (sp) to work well as does peppermint essential oil to my scalp and temples. Somehow it seemed to lessen the pressure/pain.

I am not a big fan of benzo.'s due to the high rate of physiological dependency issues (in which case withdrawal mirrors lyme sx and can be tough for those with a sensitive cns), but when the pressure is unbearable a .5 mg. of Xanax would help. Best.

I treated Babesia Duncani for almost a year.... nothing improved really... then we started to tackle Bartonella and that is when my head pressure started to finally improve until she upped my dosage. I have read they both cause the head pressure but I think and I am hoping that its Bart.

And, of course, I woke up yesterday with a severe sore throat runny nose and a very sick feeling. I got a bug. I went to get tested from strep and it came back negative, however he prescribed be omnicef but I am not taking it.... I think docs are way to quick to the prescription pad these days.. This was not my LLMD but an express care place.

So right now I feel completely awful... Do you get scalp sores/bumps by any chance?

Xrunnerx-12.

I too treated Babs for a long time and kept having back slides when making Rx changes. We thought I developed Mepron resistance and did a round of coartem this past Sept into October.

In late October we switched over to Rif to see if Bart was holding back Babs improvements. My first five weeks on Rif, mino and plaq were really bad, almost worse since starting treatment in March 2010.

The last 10 days or so I've seeing good improvements and may be back to 90%, with minimal head pressure and foot neuroprophy, and improved cognition. Still wake up at 3am though.

Yes, I also have a "crusty" scalp indicative of bart.

Hang in there...
