Thanks TF. We think we have plateaued (having made significant improvements, but definitely not "out of the woods") in treatment with confirmed Bb and bart (including skin streaks) and the discussion has turned to Babs. A clinical test results have been negative (I am aware of the many limitations there) and are pondering next steps. Not an easy decision because the meds can be expensive and pretty unpleasant.

I read babesia microti causes the drenching sweats. I had babesia duncani and got plenty of hot flashes but no sweating.
Do you have air hunger, pain in the large muscles of your thighs, buttocks or back? I would seize up with cramps. Do you have profound fatigue, weakness and mental confusion? I took an IQ test when I had babesia and it was below normal.
You are right - the meds are ridiculously expensive. Maybe you could try a round of Coartem to see if you respond. That is only 3 days and less than $100 (as well as I remember).

Yes, I tested low positive through Igenex to Babesia Duncani. I never had night sweats. I did have hot flashes during the day though when I was first starting to get sick but I don't have them as regular now. I haven't started treating Babesia Duncani yet - but will be starting malarone, biaxin and artemesinin soon.

Not really night sweats, but thermostat out of whack. That could also be the effect of lyme on the autonomic nervous system and hormone balance.
I wondered too if I had it, had tested negative for microti, but was bitten on west coast so later it turned out I had duncani. Now, however, they are finding duncani in the east too, and there are other species for which no test exists. I finally was diagnosed by blood smear. Not sure if anyone is doing that now.

I had microti. I really had no babs symptoms, but I got an Igenex positive, and when I started to treat, all hell broke loose!
I got horrendous flares weekly like clockwork as soon as I started treating it. It was really unbelievable.
My doctor treated me with Bactrim DS. It hits both babs and bart. So, you might want to give it a try just to see what happens. And, it is not costly like Mepron.
(I was unable to take any of the meds that have to be paired with Mepron, hence the Bactrim DS.)

Yes. Tested positive through Quest. I have had no classic Babesia symptoms. Started treating and they all came out.

Thank you Bob. I appreciate it! Will do on keeping posted. It sounds like the form of Babesia I have (Babesia Duncani) is a long haul for most :-(. It is interesting that so many with Babesia are commenting they were mostly assymptomatic until they began the treatment for it and then it came out of the woodwork. I know for many that is not the case but it is good to know that not having the typical Babesia symptoms on an ongoing basis does not necessarily mean it is not there. I have often questioned my positive result on the Igenex test because I hadn't had air hunger or the night sweats. Or maybe had them on very rare occasions. So it will be interesting as I start the anti-malarial treatments for Babesia to see how I go. All the best with your treatments.
