Anyone diagnosed with SIBO? I recently tested positive for it and was amazed at how many issues it can cause. http://www.siboinfo.com/symptoms.htmlPosts: 1748 | From United States | Registered: Dec 2011

Yes. Anyone with gut dysmotility (chronic constipation/diarrhea, gastroparesis, etc.) is likely to have SIBO...

I have not had the breath test, but am pretty sure that I have fairly severe SIBO and , amongst other things, am starting an 'adapted' version of Norm Robillard's Fast Tract diet tomorrow to see if it will help.
I think it has been a problem for me for many years without my being able to track down the root cause of symptoms.

Just be very very careful about treatment. Treatment for supposed SIBO caused my gut to get totally out of whack. That was 5 years ago and I'm still struggling.

Lymetoo what treatment did you have that caused your gut to get out of whack? Usually your gut is out of whack which is because you have SIBO and need treatment...Your gut was fine before the treatment?

Took me two years to rebuild my gut. I fermented kefir, kombucha and vegetables (sauerkraut) at home during that time. I used several rounds of Humaworm (kills bad bacteria and parasites), Dr. Natura (I still do it yearly for maintenance).

For someone with SIBO all that fermented food would make things much worse. Just as probiotics arequestionablecaswell for those with SIBO.

Ellen, what is your plan to treat? Are you going to take the Rifaximin? (special antibx for SIBO stays in gut).
Yes, I have wondered for sure if I have SIBO- I should do the breath test too.
I have been using Prescript Assist. probiotic, and have been taking GSE capsules lately- no grains (mostly, but 100% GF) no dairy, low sugar type foods. But my gut has issues.

Tried prescript assist and it did not work well for me. Now I know why. My LLNP wanted me to take rifaximin but insurance will not cover it so she is researching other options.
Diet is key as well. She wanted me to do the SCD for one week prior to starting tretment but in researching it I found I am already doing it and actually mine has been more restrictive as I have been starch, gluten and grin free for a yr now. The only two things I found on the SCD thst are illegal thst I have been consuming occas are maple syrup and 85% chocolate.

Ellen, Prescript Assist did me no good either. I agree that there is disagreement amongst 'experts' and the SIBO patient population as to whether probiotics are friend or foe , at least, until the bacterial population has been reduced.
Terv, your question pinpoints why it is hard for people to realise that SIBO may be part of their problem. A lot of the symptoms overlap with yeast/candida problems, food intolerances. If you have IBS or GERD/ reflux, you may not have heard that SIBO may well be behind them.

Thanks for the link, I have seen it, I spent some time the last few months reading up on SIBO. Finally taking Rifaximin did fix it for people, but it can come back.
I can't believe when I finally got the nerve to go to my insurance Dr.s about my gut issues and was brutally honest, (saw Gastro twice, had endo/colonoscopy) NO-ONE mentioned taking a breath test for SIBO.
Prescript Assist has been okay for me- I also tried cutting all fructose, no difference, tried Paleo autoimmune (no nuts), no difference- but I do stay Paleo diet, that does help me- probably because it cuts yeast foods.
I have never had a heartburn issue- ever. But bloating, constipation, pain, can't eat a lot, skinny... yeah, I should get the breath test. And a stool test. Just focusing on my daughter's tx right now (excuse, excuse, but God, the $).

Just passing on what worked for me. As mentioned in my post, I did A LOT to kill off the bacteria. I was diagnosed with bacterial overgrowth in my intestines. I've been well for over 5 years.
You have to replace the bacteria in your gut or the bad stuff will just grow back.

I was doing better on the fermented vegetables until I crashed in February. I got hives and now I'm extremely sensitive to the sauerkraut. (via the Body Ecology Diet)
Hoping to try again by adding a little at a time, but I'm not excited about trying it since ferments are high in histamine.

Once I got my gut populated, I didn't need it all the time anymore. I only eat it once in a while. Your gut should reach a balance and maintain.
Perhaps that's why you became sensitive?

There is a link between SIBO and histamine intolerance, and fermented food is high in histamine,so not suitable for those who have both conditions unless the histamine problem is under control.

Even if the histmine problem is under control those with sIBO have to be very cautious about fermented foods.

Six, I always appreciate you posting about how long it took/ hard work to repair your gut.
I will say I DO keep working on mine, with herbs, diet, and slowly it is getting better- about 1 1/2 years ago I did bottom (ha ha) out, where it was ruling my life. Now it's not.
But I need to get off the pot (ha ha) and do a stool test or urine OAT type already.
My daughter has had 3-4, and it ALWAYS is enlightening, and her last one (3 months ago) revealed very high d-lactate, which I never would have thought. Prompted us to switch her probiotics.
