I tried a new sleep support spray and found myself in the middle of a horror movie. I'm afraid to try it again but not sure what caused it. It had GABA, L-theanine, L-tryptophan, melatonin, juju and valerian. It said to use 6 sprays but I only did two. Any thoughts on this?

I assume it was an oral spray?
Could have been the valerian. I tried valerian about 10 years ago, and it made me very nervy and anxious. I definitely couldn't sleep on it. I then read that for 5% of the population, it can actually cause excitability instead of relaxation.
Interestingly, I have recently been using it again with some very good results for sleep (in addition to my other sleep supps). I seriously wonder if it hits certain pathogens. I know lavendar does. I know lavendar wasn't in your mix, but lavendar sleep pills caused me a pretty major die-off when I tried it orally last year (fungal I believe).
Also, I think I read somewhere that valerian's mechanism of action is similar to Xanax. But, don't quote me on that one.

Yes it is oral. I felt it relaxing me but had a nightmare that was so vivid I had to turn the tv on for the night to keep me company. I had this happen years ago when the dr had me try another herbal type sleep aid but don't remember which one. I am only on samento and supplements now so don't think it was a herx.
Did not know nightmare can be a herx. Looks like I'm back to ambien tonight. It works for me thankfully and I need to sleep tonight.

I'd say it was the valerian. I've had horrible reaction to that one. It was anything but relaxing. It can cause anxiety and the complete opposite of what you want it to do.

I read through your list again.
Tryptophan is notorious for causing nightmares. My ND told me that after we tried using it.

I just did more research on this product and there was a comment that depression and nightmares can occur with too much melatonin and those prone to depression should not take melatonin. Don't know if this is true for everyone. Thanks for your thoughts.

Valerian causes me to have crazy nightmares. Plus I think trypto/valerian combo is contraindicated if you happen to be on any anti-depressants. I have not had problems with melatonin.

It came to mind that what I tried a few years back was 5-htp which is the tryptophan, I believe. So that must be the trigger for me. At least one of them
