If I start Doryx for a possible new bite, is there a risk of the antibiotic "reactivating" bugs that have been dormant for years?

Am I at risk for kicking up a massive relapse?

Or would it only kill off active bugs?

I would think it could.

Shoot. I really hope that won't happen because I took my first dose about an hour ago.

Although back in 2010 I had symptoms and it was determined that I had untreated coinfections (Bart/Babs).

Before those test results came back, I was on Ceftin for 23 days. That hits Lyme, yet it did not cause a Lyme flare.

The symptoms were from the coinfections which....once treated....all went away without having to retreat the Lyme afterwards.

Hoping I am doing the right thing by starting the doxy.

It's like I either don't take it and then what if my recent bite WAS a tick bite?

Or I do take it and cross my fingers and hope to not stir anything up.

Ugh. Can't wait for LLMD office to open on Tuesday so I can call.

I'm afraid to take my pills if that puts me at risk for reactivating old bugs.

And I'm afraid to not take them in case this is a tick bite.

Absolutely, Lymetoo!!! It's awful!

I am feeling a little symptomatic, yet I am scared of old stuff resurfacing.

Especially since I have come so far. Just over 5 years in remission.

I wish I knew beyond a doubt.

If I just saw the bite early last week, am I OK to wait 1-2 weeks to see the LLMD before taking the pills?

In my personal opinion, I would no think doxy would reactive dormant Lyme. Dormant Lyme would probably be in cyst form and doxy doesn't hit that form.

Hey, hiker!

That was what I was thinking....at least hoping.

I was under the impression that certain bugs become dormant because they hide and can no longer be killed off by antibiotic.

Maybe cyst busters, but like you said, Doxy doesn't do that.

It just feels like a crap shoot.
