Thank you, sparkle7, this is very interesting, but, unfortunately, the use of Epsom salts causes more pain for my son.
What bothers me is that there is no mention in the description of Fibromyalgia about bacterial or viral infections causing the pain.
"While fibromyalgia is not well understood, current thinking is that it is the result of central augmentation of pain sensitivity, either triggered by a traumatic event or developing gradually."

- I love the idea of a floatation tank. Some of the chemicals used to clean them may not work for everyone though. And I'd sort of like one open to the night sky, looking up at all the stars with no city lights or sounds, of course.
For so many, lyme is the CAUSE of FM. Too few fibromyalgia "experts" (if any?) fail to even consider that.
And that irritates me to the moon and back. Lyme should be the first thing on the list to consider (after accident damage, of course but even someone with previously latent lyme can have a downward spiral after an accident so lyme should still be considered).
So, for those with lyme / TBD (tick borne disease) who have FM as one of the symptoms, there are certain things that can ease the pain while also addressing all the underlying CAUSES (starting with lyme / TBD / stealth infections).
There are many things that can be soothing and healing along the way and as adjunct therapy but if infection is on board and it's ignored, nothing is going to help much for very long. -

I think some places do consider Lyme. I was diagnosed with Lyme at the Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Center...
I looked over my Lyme test(s) results many years later - and to my knowledge as to how to read them - it was not conclusive either way (even considering the more "lenient" way to interpret them) . I tried Lyme treatments & nothing worked for me.
The antibiotics did nothing in a 9 month period - so, I didn't want to keep pushing more & more with various ones. What helped me the most was herbal anti-parasite treatments. Whatever it is came back or persists.
I still read up on Lyme and the co-infections. I like this message board since people here are knowledgeable and supportive. It's just really hard to say what is the cause of some of our problems.
Until they have a really accurate test - it's hard to say.
Listen to the interview with Dr. Hanscom. It's pretty interesting if you are dealing with chronic pain. I don't know if it's the case for everyone but de-stressing can be helpful.
I do feel that there are definite pathogens making people ill but the mind-body connection is complicated. We all have different sets of circumstances. What helps one person, may or may not help someone else.
I never tried a flotation tank but it seems interesting. The paperwork is very easy to fill out to be in the study. You just have to see if there's a flotation tank place near you.
I don't know what chemicals are involved. I think they use epsom salt which is OK for me. I like the idea of looking up at stars... Maybe if you close your eyes, you can see your inner stars?
