Not sure if I've mentioned this before, but I had an alternative doctor order one for me once. I only saw him a couple of times (actually, I saw his NP).
There used to be a place online you could order one, but I think that didn't work out for whatever reason. Their website doesn't exist anymore.

Blue has a good point. If a regular doc is treating you, what good is an MRI? Mine just proved I didn't have MS, which I already knew.

Well, I wrecked my thoracic spine and due to a messup at the hospital they took the WRONG MRI. I could not convince them to take the right one, which leaves me with this back problem and no MRI except the wrong one which I paid for.
But I've been thinking about this lately. I've had MRIs of my neck and lumbar spine and of my brain. 18 months ago my brain was clear except for a few "freckles", like 4.
But all of my symptoms are neurological and they all have to do with weird sensations, tinnitis, perceived weakness and they always come on after I'm upright for a couple hours. It all started from a weird accident two years ago where I ended up in the ER making them check to make sure my neck wasn't broken.
So maybe, if I got some good imaging and started working on my spine somehow some of these symptoms would go away. If my spine is wrecked taking abx can only do so much. I think I need a back doc.

When all this first started I thought I had whiplash and I was looking into surgery and its aftermath which really looked like the pits of hell for some people. What's worse by far than a back problem is a failed surgery, my goodness.
While I was considering all that I kept trying to get positive Lyme tests. I didn't want to get my back messed with if the real problem was spirochetes.
But it's possible I have both. Pretty likely I do.
I don't think I'd do surgery regardless. I'm waiting for them to get better at it. But there are other therapies that might help.

For what it's worth, I've had two LLMDs tell me that spine pain goes away with abx. One of them specifically said Levaquin is what takes it away (not advocating quinolones here, just passing on what he said).
I have bad spine pain but mine is mostly in my lumbar spine (I have it throughout my spine, but the greatest intensity is in the lumbar area). I've had more than one MRI on it, and it always comes back clear. I've given up on imaging.

I don't really have a lot of pain. Just a lot of other weirdness. If it were just pain then painkillers and nerve blocks or whatever could eventually manage these symptoms.
I have shakes, twitches, tremors, my spine moves around on its own, my head vibrates, my back throbs and pulses but there's no pain. It's trippy and terrifying. I talked to a neurologist yesterday who got me an appointment with a vestibular specialist because she thinks maybe something happened to my balance receptors.
I wish I was one of those people who could be fixed up with abx but I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to keep digging.
The thoracic thing just pisses me off. I want that MRI because it's the only way to prove the hospital made a mistake -- and my primary doc just conveniently blocked this possibility basically just because she felt like it.
The only way I can prove I'm not a crybaby/whiner is to get the damn MRI that shows there's something wrong.

Sounds like you would have more luck with a specialist... who treats the back, an orthopedist?

That's what I'm wondering. I saw a neurosurgeon last year and showed him all the busted discs on my cervical spine. He told me they were not my problem.
I dunno, I have three in my neck, four in my lower back, and who knows what in my thoracic. At a certain point this has got to turn out to be a problem.
I really want to exercise more ( well, stretch, flex, ambulate) but I'm practically scared to move now.
