I had someone that had started to help me but flaked out and won't return my calls. Are there people besides a lawyer who can help us fill out the application?

Yes, they are called Disability Advocates. I know my BIL used one a few years ago and it worked out for him.
I'm digging in my foggy brain this morning trying to remember how he found this person? I'll be back.

I just did a web search and many popped up for my state. You should be able to find one easily.

Seems they charge too. I went to disability secrets and seems they recommended a lawyer vs a non lawyer advocate. Seems I'm Kinda right where I started

Maybe by state? My BIL didn't pay his advocate in KY.
You know you can't believe everything you read when it comes to reviews. Sounds like lawyers trying to give advocates a bad rap when they want a percentage of our money.
Good luck. I highly recommend getting help.

You can check to see if your area has an Independent Living Center (ILC) - I bet there is one in the Chicago area.

I messaged depot of human services and haven't heard. What is bil? Brother in law? I dunno where to search. And an independent living center has someone to help with disability?

This looks like a great place to call and ask questions on where you can get help with an advocate to help you.

Thank you. But I found that already and went through them all. No luck. Looks like a lawyer is my only option in Illinois. I got 1 referral from another lymie so hopefully that works. This is so frustrating. Equally as hard to go through all the hoops to get a cannabis card. Seems they just hope you give up. Sigh. Wish I could move overseas.
