Up

this is important

From NY Lyme:

"Right now we are concentrating on writing to physicians in NYS asking them to contact Sen Hannon to support the OPMC bill. One thing we needs is more US postal stamps, snce many people who have energy to mail
letters cannot afford a lot of postage."

See NY Lyme for details of how to help. We need this bill to go through to protect NY LLMD's.

Thank goodness for Lymenet! You folks are always on the ball.

The short story about this issue is that the NYS Office of Professional Medical Conduct has been staging a witch hunt against Lyme doctors in NY. Two thirds of the LLMDs here have been targeted for investigation. This has created an atmosphere across the country which makes docs afraid to treat us.

We have a bill in the state legislature now that will protect all doctors from persecution. If Senator Kemp Hannon keeps getting calls from DOCTORS in NYS, we have an excellent chance of getting the OPMC Reform bill passed in a few
weeks.

As patients, we need to send a letter to all doctors in NYS to let them know this bill is in the legislature.
The letter (actually its a flyer) is at www.healthlobby.com/OPMCreformLetter.htm

If you can donate postage stamps, please email me at [email protected] and I will send you an address to send the stamps to.

I'm going to post separately about other things you can do to help. Please do help, because our medical care is in danger if we cannot protect our docs from OPMC persecution.
Thanks,
Ellen

Hi folks,
This is how everyone can help pass the OPMC Reform Bill, which will protect our LLMDs from persecution

SNAIL MAILING:
1) Please just print out the flyer at www.healthlobby.com/OPMCreformLetter.htm

This flyer explains the OPMC Reform bill to physicians AND asks them to contact Senator Hannon to get him to support the Reform bill.

2) Put a copy of the flyer in an envelope and send it to a doctor in New York State.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WRITE ANYTHING TO GO WITH THE FLYER, IT IS
SELF EXPLANATORY.

3) Mail the flyers to doctors in New York State. Mail as many flyers as
you are able to afford the stamps and have energy to address the
envelopes.

4) To get the names of doctors in New York State, go to http://yellowpages.superpages.com Write physicians and surgeons in the keyword box and New York in the state box, picking any city in New York State at random.

5) Be sure to mail ONLY to MD's or DO's (Osteopaths).

FAXING:
Please email Mo at [email protected] and she will fax you a list of doctors' fax numbers.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks,
Ellen

Remember that these actions are being requested of everyone, no matter where they live.

If we don't get this legislation passed here in NYS in the next few weeks, the licenses of at least two of the docs here will be in danger.

Because NY has some of the best known and longest practicing Lyme docs, doctors throughout the country are aware of the NYS situation.

Loss of doctors here will create an atmosphere in which doctors across the country will be afraid to treat Lyme disease. Even more afraid than they currently are, that is.

Please, every one pitch in.
Thanks,
Ellen

Other than on the Healthlobby website, you can find the history of our grassroots activity on www.lymeinfo.net/OPMC.html
There has been a lot of work by Lyme patients on the OPMC issue. It'snow for us to push this bill through.

Let's keep this near the top.

People need to know now what they can do to protect our medical care.

This is an immediate, urgent problem.

YES..

We all know how urgent it is to protect our LLMD's! Imagine if we had none.

If everyone reading this thread would just take on some faxes or flyer mailings..

We could keep a steady flow going to NY Docs.

We gotta keep pressure on Hannon so he will not let this Bill fade away. Our doctors (and care nationwide) are in trouble!!

If you cannot do the faxing or mailing at all, you can donate stamps.

Please stay alert for any new action alerts as well.

We need to act during this month and into May.

Mo

Because this fight has been going on for a few years and because the work in the past year has been behind the scenes, I am very afraid that the Lyme community does not get that this issue is now an emergency.

One LLMD in NYS has had his license revoked by the OPMC. At least two thirds of the LLMDs have been targeted for investigation and some are still at risk of losing their licenses.

THE OPMC WITCH HUNT IN NYS HAS CAUSED DOCS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY TO STOP TREATING LYME DISEASE. IF WE DO NOT PASS THE OPMC REFORM BILL NOW, WE WILL NOT ONLY LOSE NYS LLMDS, WE WILL LOSE LLMDS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY.

Sorry to yell, but I have a feeling that I will be forgiven for yelling if it helps people realize that they need to act now to protect their medical care.

Please take part in this fight.
Ellen
