Walnut:
I saw your post on another thread- would you mind sharing your tests results (post them here, and what lab they were).

I have been off abx for a year, asymptomatic, feeling great, and just had this years lyme test (Igenex IgG, IgM blots)
and my Igm has activity on 11 out of 16 bands
Not all are ++, or +.. alot are +/- but my doc thinks it's indicative of active Lyme and of course relapse down the road.

Thanks,
Barb

WALNUT wrote (on a different thread):
Based on my own experience, I doubt that diflucan is effective in curing lyme. In May, my LLMD felt that my lyme was under control and babesia cured, so he took me off all medications and prescribed diflucan for 10 days. I also went on a very strict anti-yeast diet and did infrared sauna. For the first 4 weeks I felt OK, but then the lyme and babesia returned in full force and I was sicker than ever before. The subsequent lyme test was highly positive (My LLMD said that less than 1 percent of his patients ever showed such high positive).
Maybe 10 days wasn't enough to control the yeast. However, I would caution anyone considering getting off antibiotics and on diflucan, to be sure that their LLMD feels that the lyme is under control and they don't have co-infections lingering, since they quickly can end up very sick, as I did.

Hi Barb,

I would be happy to share my test results.

May 2003: Lyme test with Quest Diagnostics for IGG was positive for 5 bands out of 10, and the IGM was positive for 1 band out of 3.

November 2003: Babesiosis WA1 was reactive at 1:1280 by County of Sonoma through IgeneX.

After being off meds and 10 days of diflucan, the Lyme Western blot IGG with IgeneX came back ++++ for the 23-25 kDa band, + for two other bands, and +/- for 4 bands (out of 16 bands).

The Lyme Western blot IMG came back with +++ for the 23-25 band, ++ for 2 bands, + for 2 bands, and +/- for 3 bands.

The LLMD said that testing ++++ for a band was rather uncommon (the scale only goes to +++), and he saw it in less than 1% of his patients, but thought that is was a good sign that the immune system was hard at work.

Same time I also tested positive for the Lyme IGM/IGG recombinant antigen with Medical Diagnostic Lab.

Finally, in September 2004, the babesia WA1 test came back 1:256 with Quest Diagnostics.

I would be very interested in any comments/suggestions that any of you have. I am right now on mepron, ketek, artemisinin, and just started on diflucan. As with the first round of mepron, I have not had any flare-ups. And after 9 weeks, I am neither feeling better nor worse.

Walnut:
Thanks for sharing the information on your tests.

Your abx regiment looks like a good strong
combo to me..are you handling all the meds OK?

IMO, the fact that you have such a strong antibody response IS a good sign. Your Quest PCR indicates either the bacteria or it's DNA is in your blood...PCR can't tell if the bacteria is dead or alive, but the fact you have symptoms back may indicate it's not just DNA fragments in the blood... How long were you symptom free before relapsing?

Do you know if you are early Lyme, or a late lyme case?

Thanks,
Barb

I have late-stage lyme. Mostly neurological symptoms, but little pain. I have no idea when I got lyme. Had some symptons, such as light sensitivity, knee problems, stiff neck, etc. for years. Never occured to me that is was due to an infection. The two LLMDs that I have seen since diagnosed in April 2003, think that I have had lyme for many years and reinfected numerous times (however they can tell?).

In April 2003, I got babesia in Montana (despite babesia does not exist there according to their health dept.). And then the lyme got completely out of control.

I was never symptom free when I was taken off Rx. But I did have symptom free days. The MD took me off because he felt that the babesia was successfully treated (no testing), and he thought that the lyme could be kept under control with supplements, diet and exercise. Also he was concerned about toxin overload. At the time I had lost my appetite and was losing weight. In the end I weighed less that 100 lb. (I am a short person), despite eating a 2000-2500 cal. diet a day. After I was put on IV rocephin, I gained the weight back.

Walnut.
Thanks very much for the replies.
Yes- I know that stiff neck.. I think mine was stiff from
about 1988 to the early 2000's when I got dx
correctly.
Good luck with your treatment.
Barb
