We just found a lonestar tick in my husband's navel. It had only been on him a half hour or so.
But when we used tweezers & tried to pull it out, it clamped down. I got it out, but it grabbed back in hard. Finally pulled out most of it, and a little chunck of his skin came with it, but one pincher stayed in!
We dabbed it with alcohol and he just went off to the minor ER to have them get the pincher out! He also just took 200 mg of doxy.
Any thing else we can do now???????
I can't believe how terribly we botched the job when we knew it was important to remove it gently! We tried, but when it clamped in, we pulled harder!
Can you send Igenex a dead tick in 2 pieces to test?
Read the last section: "Rationale for Treating Tick Bites"
To me, the info & reasons given here are very convincing!!
Also, research has shown that IF a tick has the Lyme bacteria in the salivary glands, they can transmit the disease as soon as they bite. Besides the barbs that make removal difficult, they also "cement" the mouth parts to the skin while feeding.
If your husband has Lyme, it becomes much more complicated the longer he goes before treatment.
The opportunity to treat early only comes around once. There won't be a second chance!!

I'd see a lyme specialist just to be on the safe side because you also have to check for other tick borne infections. A lyme specialist will know what to.

I know how you panicked! When I got bit last month, I grabbed the tick with my finger nails and bare hands! All I could think about was to get it off!
I suggest testing too. But get some doxy NOW. It took Igenex 3 wks to get me the test results! They came out negative! www.igenex.com
Don't beat yourself up about the tick removal...I did the same thing three months ago when removing a tick from my dog that was attached despite the Frontline...
The Lone Star Ticks are unbelievable in their capacity to embed...I had proper tick removal tweasers and have studied the correct removal procedures for 6 months and it still broke in two.
Glad you got antibiotics and are treating from the start...
Take care...

It is my understanding that it can take several weeks for the antibodies to show up in testing, and that 4-6 weeks of doxy is recommended to commence ASAP.
If you wait for a + test, it may be too late to treat easily.
You might want to call Igenex to discuss this with them.
I would suggest getting an urgent appt. with an LLMD (let them know what happened), or, at least get into someone who will give you doxy for as much of the 4-6 weeks as possible, if you can't get into an LLMD for a few weeks.
