I have had episodes over the past 6-9 months where I feel like I don't know who I am. I feel very vulnerable and anxious because I'll forget things or have strange symptoms (strange as in I've had them before, but I can't stand them). I don't feel mentally there.

I know people forget things, lose things, but this past weekend I've had a couple of incidences that frightened me. I've never been like this before. It makes me sad. Is this part of recovery? Herxing? Toxins?

I know you guys will say all of the above.
But if you can tell me why I'm feeling this, it would help. It's like my body can do things that anyone can do, but my brain is uncertain. It's like being a mental midget and just walking into a fastfood restaurant with my kid and friends will throw me into brainfog, as if I've never done it before.

It feels like I'm anxious over the fact that "something might happen", but I fight it really hard.

It is really scaring me.

I don't think anyone know the exact mechanism of how Lyme does this. Most likely it is the bacteria causing inflammation in parts of of the brain. If the Lyme improves, these symptoms will improve too.

I know this may not help much, but you have to keep saying to yourself "It's just the bacteria." Keep repeating it to yourself like it's a mantra. That's what I do in those hard moments.

Since these feelings are scaring you, I recommend you call your LLMD.

He/she may say it's a herx & modify your treatment protocol,
or may say hang on & you'll get through it.

A LLMD has usually heard it all & can put your mind at ease.
Extra stress makes it more difficult for your body to fight the disease.

Another possibility is systemic yeast.
If you're on high doses of antibiotics (abx) & not taking enough acidophilus to replenish the good bacteria, you can develop candida.
Symptoms can include neurological problems.

Have you been checked for Co-Infections?
Some, like Bartonella, can cause neuro problems, too.

So sorry you have all this to deal with.
Keep in touch & let us know how you're doing.

If you read any of my sites, you'll know that someone understands the anguish with the brain, anxiety, lyme, treatment.

If you want to e-mail me, please do.

Feel well,

Cigi

Just hearing from you guys this morning makes me feel better. I woke up and said, God I don't feel like going to work. Then I remember all of those days last summer where I dragged my butt to work so that I could get hired on full time--I supply the family health insurance.

Yes, I do the mantra. Mind over matter a lot. I am quite fortunate to have a therapist who has researched lyme and was way before Steere and his pals.

She just happens to be a beautiful woman they wanted to pigeonhole into academia. I've been seeing her every 2 weeks because it reduces my anxiety just knowing someone is monitoring me.

I love the understanding you have. It is so appreciated.

I was going to come in with a question/comment on your topic Lymster, too...

[I know people forget things, lose things, but this past weekend I've had a couple of incidences that frightened me. I've never been like this before. It makes me sad. Is this part of recovery? Herxing? Toxins?]

but I'll just jump to the chase and do the mantra...

It's just the bacteria...
It's just the bacteria...
It's just the bacteria...

Thanks for asking that one! And good luck, Lymster!
