PCR tests are 100% accurate if you are lucky enough to find the bug. That is the tricky part.

My nephew was recently tested for Bart and the tests came out negative, but he has the Bartonella streatch marks, so he is being treated for it anyway.

I was bitten in CA where ticks have been found to have up to 8 species/strains of bartonella. Unfortunately there aren't lab tests for all of them, the one I took tests for 4. Who knows what the situation is elsewhere.
The same is true of babesia: more species/strains than are covered in lab tests. And lyme.
