Hi everyone
Well I have had pain and burning in my stomach for yrs..Then 4 yrs ago I started with the not being able to swallow well.In the last 2 weeks it's all gotten so bad I have lost 10 pds and I did NOT have the 10 pds to loose. Last check on the scale I was at 103 that was a few days ago and I've been afraid to get on it again... I finally had an upper Endoscopy on Friday and I've been sick in bed ever since. Anyway, They found severe gastritis, Inflammation of the small intestin as well as the esphagus, Also a small hiatal hernia and GERD.
The GI doc took 2 biopsies I dont have the results yet. I dont know what exactly hes looking for but Im sure it wont be lyme. My Dx's are Lyme, Erlichia and Babesia. Have had much treatment for them all but I still stand firm this is where ALL the problems are comming from. Can anyone point me to some good articles that I can show my GI doc who happens to be very interested in the Lyme connection with this?
Thanks so much..

I have all of those things, but not connected to Lyme.

So far as Lyme articles and such... I have none.

But on a side note, if you are looking for a drug besides the purple pill, try Protonix. It is fantastic!

You should be able to get a sample from your GI Doc (if you want to try it). Your life will improve.

I dont think it is that unusual for people with these kinds of problems to lose weight..eating can be painful. You eventually begin to associate food with misery.

Hang in there. Now that you know what is wrong you can deal with it.

Hi Kara,
Yes I've been on protonix because none of the other ppi's seemed to agree with me. problem is I dont think Im on a high enough dose.. The protonix agree's with me but I think the dose is too low. it only sorta works.. I looked up some info on it and the normal starting dose for what I have is 40 mgs TWO times a day Im only on once a day. My GI doc is away till next week so I"ll talk to him about it then.. Hope you're feeling well..

I had the same problem with the drugs. They always gave me headaches. For those of us with severe GERD, tums are a joke!

I am pretty sure that when I started, I was on the higher dosage (after an er visit due to an intake of polish sausage). I later could taper off.

I was born with stomach issues (literally). When I was a baby, I would scream for hours in pain. Over the years I have learned to adjust my eating habits.

Try switching to goats milk, that may help.

Pick your coffee wisely. I like Folgers Breakfast blend. It is very mild. There is also a company that make a low acid coffee (if you are interested).

Whatever you do, DONT let them ever give you morphine (unless you have your GERD under control). The drug is very acidic. You will be in agony worse than what the original reason you needed it.

I also drink distilled water before I eat. That seems to help me.

I have tons of GI problems myself-its just awful!!! Be prepared for you biopsies to possibly come back normal. Thats so typicall with Lyme disease. This disease can attack wherever it wants and do what it wants to as well!!! I hate the whole thing! I just wanted to let you know you are not alone!! I may ask my GI dr about Protonix as well-sounds like it is helpful.

what cause the inflammation of the esophogus?
I have a choking sensation too, and I don't know why as yet.

I have the same problems. Right now i am on Nexium two per day. I still have heartburn and pain even with a PPI. They all are about the same, they dotn work well, and only take the edge off, not fix the symptoms. Well, all the antibiotics and pills ripped up my gut something fierce and now i am on nothing but tummy meds. I have microscopic colitis which is a living hell.

For severe gastritis try plain old pepto bismol 8 caps a day, it will turn your stool black but it does help. Zantac at 300 mg twice a day helps a bit too. You can take it with a PPI. DGL (Deglyzerized Licorice sp?) works well to heal the stomach lining, as does l-glutamine..and the Rx Carafate (coats the tummy)

make sure the GI doc checks you for h.pylori. Its too bad you didnt get biopsies sent to check for Lyme and bartonella from the gastric tissue.
Well, try to eat bland things, no soda, no dairy, no roughage...and stop all pills other than tummy meds if you can for awhile. if you have Ehrlichia..and took Doxy..that will rip up your guts and it takes months to heal. All the meds ripped me up nasty. It will get better.
Hope you feel better.

I initially was diagnosed as having GERT 1 year before finding I hade 4 co-infections with lyme - I had one period of 4 weeks when none of the GERT meds touched the reflux - they could not figure this out - My drug of choice now for the gert is previcid - But I only have to take it on and off now when some of the abx hit my stomack hard - throught my treatments for the bugs over the last 6 months my GI hardly bothers me now -
