After 9 weeks & 2 days of Rocephin with Actigall, I had to go off because several small gallstones had formed.

Now LLMD says stay on Actigall another couple of months.

Anyone had luck with gallstones formed due to Rocephin dissolving without Actigall?

I ask because one side effect described for Actigall is hair falling out -- my husband & hairdresser & I estimate that in the 11 weeks I've been on Actigall, I've lost 1/4 of my hair!!!!! I want to go off of it!!

I should add that I tried one of the gallbladder/liver flushes that was posted, and it just caused constipation.

Actigall has a not fabulous response rate in premenopausal women with regard to gallstones. However, your gallstones from Rocephin are quite likely to be made of rocephin precipitate rather than cholesterol based. Indeed, they may disolve on their own.

I've had rocephin gallstones on multiple occassions. Each time, a few months after I finished rocephin treatment, the gallstones resolved on their own as did the RUQ discomfort that I had experience.

I am curious as to whether there has actually been any studies on the relative efficacy of Actigall on various gallstone TYPES including those from rocephin... I'm not convinced as to its utility as either a preventative or treatment for rocephin gallstones especially in premenopausal women.

Duramater, Thank you for your reply. You said exactly what I was wondering. The description of Actigall on NIH's MedlinePlus says it works by preventing the formation of cholesterol, which is what gallstones usually are made of. Since gallstones created by crystallizing rocephin are not made of cholesterol, I didn't see how Actigall could help. Now if Actigall also increases bile production, and extra bile helps the stones slide through the liver, then that would be a mechanism that might help get rid of the stones even if they are crystallized rocephin. But, my LLMD couldn't answer that.

WildCondor, thank you as well. I printed the Hulda Clark liver flush & plan to try it this weekend.

Wow...I would hate the part about the hair falling out!!! [Eek!] I took Actigall about 18 mo ago when it was found that I had gallstones and sludge [and pain.] I never took Rocephin.

In one day, I could tell the difference in my level of pain. Taking the Actigall got me over the hump, then once I found the Xango, much of the inflammation was cleared.

I managed to keep my GB another 16 mo before having it removed this summer.

After what others have posted here, it would seem that you may be able to get by with a few flushes. I was afraid to do that because I had several large stones, and many small ones.

I didn't want them to get stuck, thereby requiring emergency surgery.
