I started IV Rocephin on November 7, 5 days on/2 days off. Am also taking Actigall.
Have had no problems (except yeast) until Monday night, when I woke up in the middle of the night nauseous and threw up. This persisted until noon on Tuesday, when I took an anti-nausea med (Promethazine) that my PCP prescribed. Have been fine since (it's been almost 24 hours). Never had any pain.
Spoke with LLPA last night. She wants me to get a gall bladder sonogram. PCP says this is premature since I have no pain and do not have symptoms any more. I told him I'd like to at least make an appointment for one next week and if I still feel ok I can cancel it. He agreed to do that.
I'd like to know what you all think, and if I should stop the Rocephin. I have been doing 5 minute infusions, should I lengthen them to a 1/2 hour or hour? I do not want to stop since I have only been doing this treatment for 2 weeks.
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving, P

Or dr. has my daughter starting Rocephin at 2x week of 1gram. Will increase if ok and rotate abx. She did a course of 12 wks rocephin last spring and got gallstones, and had gallbladder removed.
When we started IV last yr, I was not aware that you didn't have to do every day. Some believe M-F only can be better. Or 4days on 3days off, etc.
Great your on Actigall.
My advice as a lyme patient and caregiver, not a dr, is to take a break from infusing and see how you feel. You could have the flu. If you do, no use killing yourself with abx on top of flu. If it is the abx, break will help, then you can evaluate if rocephin is best one for you. Crazy trying to figure thinsgs out. If you don't infuse, you still need to flush with saline and hepron.
You can pm me if you would like, not that I am an expert...smile

I suggest getting the ultrasound done to be safe. It's a good idea to have a baseline done before you start on the Rocephin (a little late now) and to have survelience ones done every month or two while on Rocephin. This may seem like overkill and it may be more than is necessary, but if you develop stones and are able to catch it early, you can stop the Rocephin and avoid surgery. But, without pain it doesn't really sound like it's your gallbladder. Better safe than sorry!
I have been fine since Tuesday afternoon, but I am still getting the ultrasound on Monday.
Before I started infusing, I got mixed messages from different medical people, and had been doing 5 minute infusions of 20 cc of Rocephin. Yesterday I did a 50-minute infusion and I feel fine. Will continue this way.
Hope you are having a nice Thanksgiving, we are having our first white Thanksgiving in a long time, it's snowing pretty hard. Luckily am not going anywhere.

Hi Sweetpea,
I had severe vomiting twelve hours (also in the middle of the night)after my first infusion (over less than 30 minutes). Doing my infusions independently, I slowed them down to 50-90 minutes. I still had an episode of vomiting exactly two weeks later. ?herx? Dunno.
Have a great Thanksgiving.

I'm noticing that in the past two days I'm sometimes a tiny bit nauseous, and feel better after eating a little, which is strange.
Also, it's now been 4 days since I took the anti-nausea pill, and I'm still groggy and dizzy and having strange dreams, which all didn't start until I took that pill.
I'm noticing right now as I try to type this post that I'm having more trouble typing than I've ever had. I think I'm going to look up the side effects of Promethazine.

Promethazine/Phenergan will make you sleep for a LONG time! When I take even 1/2 of one I sleep for 16 hours, no problem. It will also make you dizzy and have weird dreams. Its great for nausea, just be wary of the effects it can have too.

Here's an update to my first post on this subject...
My gall bladder is fine. The nausea was caused by either the Actigall - perhaps I wasn't eating enough when taking it - or the Rocephin, which I am now infusing over 45 minutes instead of 5 minutes. I am also eating some crackers while doing the infusions.

I'm posting again about this topic because I just started feeling pain in what I think is my gall bladder. Pain runs from under the right side of my ribs to the right side of my pelvis.
I'm on Day 1 of Week 5 of Rocephin. Over the weekend I started doing infusions of 2g of Gluthatione. I will be doing them the 2 days/week I take off from the Rocephin.
My LLPA wants me to double my Rocephin infusions from 2 g/1 x day to 2g/2 x day.
Should I take a break from the Rocephin for a few days and see how I feel? I left a message with my LLPA about this but wanted to get advice from others, too.
I do not want to get another sonogram because I just had one 2 weeks ago and have still not received the bill for it. I may not even be able to afford the first one I had.
Thanks so much to anyone with advice.
