Just wondering how many of you get your blood monitored while on abx? The reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of increasing my dose of doxy to 400 mg/day, but am a little scared at those levels. Any comments appreciated. I started at 200 and am now at 300. So far no major side effects. Just a little dizzy but it could be from lyme.
Thanks

Our LLMD ordered a peak and trough test when 400 mg were prescribed intravenously. I don't know if the same need would apply to orals. Are you doing this under a doctor's care?

i've tested negative 3 time for lyme, but know that those tests are unreliable...mine was done through quest diagnostics. but i have all the symptoms of lyme and my brother in law, a doctor, thought it would be good to start taking doxy. so i wasn't sure if i should get him to monitor my blood also.

I'm assuming the question is about liver function and blood chemistry tests, right, rather than retesting for tick-borne disease.
My daughter is on Ketek, Omnicef, Mepron, and Plaquenil. Doctor said yesterday he wants liver functions done every 3-4 weeks. We had been doing it more like every 6 weeks so I guess I need to step things up a bit. (She had them every 2 weeks during the 3 mo. she was on IV ABX). Her blood and liver tests have always been normal, except after a month on Septra, when she had low platelet and lymphocyte counts. Returned to normal when she went off Septra.
