ok, I have done years of no sugar and low/ no carb diets, and always felt ok , or even great for a bit, then tanked something awful....
the last best example was 8 months of no sugar, low carb/ glycemic index, no grains, 3 colorful large salads a day, all organic, lots of green tea, and good water, and a suppliment system designed for me....
and during this time I had to quit work, ran daily fevers, couldn't stand up straight, because of muscle contractions, had heart problems, and had both lungs colaspe, and finally got a dx of lyme disease!
So, I started treatment 1.5 yrs ago... heart and lungs are much better,,,thank God... a pluthera of other symptoms have come and gone, and new ones have appearred.
Currently, I am back at almost disfunctional exhaustion, and all too frequent extreme pain.
And I have found a few things: for me non-glutenous whole grains are good in small amounts. aches and extreme chills are much reduced by a mug of hot cocoa when I'm not eating, ANYTHING that re-starts my appitite is good! ( as long as it's gluten free, w/o artificial sweetners).
Anyway..long winded thought, boils down to for me eating generally healthy ( at home it's all organic, gluten free and grain fed)..when out it's a compromise...
The most important thing for me is to eat regularly not radically....to take my abx and suppliments....have a loving attitude, and patience...
Be glad for your feedback...enjoy your day!

hey Achey
Gald to hear you are feeling a little better since starting feeling better in some ways but sad you are having some new things.
It sounds like you have a wonderful attitude And your patience is really good to hear.
I think eating in moderation-good healthy foods,is key.
Herbs, supps, abx and a positive attitude will see you far.
p.s.don't forget to detox. And drink tons of fresh lemon water. And LOTS of pro-biotics! LOL
You hang in there and keep on keeping on

I can detox with grean tea, and water..epsom salt bathes, sweat and exercise, but I can not tolerate lemon water!
I keep trying and retrying, my naturopath swears by it, but for me it just produces nausea!

I dont think anything extreme is helpful when systems like ours are so delicate....
I was like you, before I got my Lyme diagnoses I was very ill and I turned to ALL alternative therapies....I despised western medicine and looked down on people who took prescription drugs or did not use supplements....
Ironically I was got sicker and sicker doing this stuff.. I also lost lots of money!
I was dignosed 8 years ago....abx saved my life...the one thing I despised years ago was the answer for me...
But I also realize that I have to incoorproate a healthy diet as much as I can ( although like you if I am away from home I have to compromise a bit)
and b/c of the sensitivities and allergies Lyme has caused I have to be very extra careful with any alternative practice or supplement I take... But there are some things I have found in moderation that I can do....
I guess thats why I get a little annoyed if people say that the ONLY way to get well is with X or Y... its simply not true....
Its about individual preferences and lots of moderation.
You have a great attitude!!!

This is where I have gotten too as well. I try not to go out often but figure I have to enjoy my life when I can. At home, I eat all clean meat and organic produce.
Since I only add healthy oils and a bit of organic butter to my food I think I am 99% gluten free. I tried adding in more grains, but for me it is not good .... I was even sticking to quinoa and a few other GF grains.
During an uncontrollable sugar binge I ate 3, yes 3, chocolate chip cookies and within minutes my mouth was burning ........... so I KNOW the sugar is not worth it. I will be sticking to my stevia sweetened hot cocoa and protein shakes ..........
You summation of the situation is true for me as well...........also on the list of "most important" I include laughter. I create and partake as much as I can ....... this I find healing.
Peace and bufffalo burgers, robi

I like you did years and years of alternative medicine, before the "crash"! It all helped some, sometimes....
And I hated abx! The pendulum swings both ways, and now I look for what is the best of both worlds for me. And as a mom of 2 kids with lyme I am continually reminded by them, that what works for me doesn't necessarily work for them....
Regarding the great attitude... boy some days and weeks, that is work. Last week my hubby was really worried cuz I had "lost my spirit" for longer than he had seen in a long time.
Yesterday and today, so far have been good.. what a blessing!

ach, how did you know your kids had lyme (symptoms)...do their diets reflect yours closely?
My kids have been sick a lot and of course being the lyme nazi that I am I think lyme...we are going to get Igenex tests for them but I am wondering about entire families that get lyme...
Could I have given it to them? (they are 13 and 15 and I have only been sick for the past few years)
-------------------- We are spiritual beings on a human journey...
like me, my kids have been coping with "stuff" for a long time. Unfortunately, because I was coping without a cause, I thought it was ok for them too...until I got dx'ed...then I went crazy, and got the 2 (of3) sick kids dx'ed and treated.
My kids are 20 and 16...I have had LD over 30 yrs and my kids have had sypmtoms...coming and going of one sort or another their whole lives. They most likely got it from me.
Fortunately they grew up on a low sugar mostly vegatarain , whole grain, organic diet, and had limited vaccines and a lot of holistic healthcare.
My 20 yr old is off abx, and working with a naturopath to get her system in optimal condition.
My 16 yr old is still on abx..he has celiac's too like me and needs more treatment and cognitive rehab, but physically he is feeling pretty good.
My eldest 23 was very sick and frequently on abx in her teens, but she's very healthy right now...she knows that she may also have chronic lyme in remission and that she needs to live healthy and probably should consult an LLMD when she is ready to be a parent.
Consult your llmd to see if your kids should be tested and check symptom checklists. And make sure you take care of you!
My LLMD wouldn't aggree to test my kids until I had made it through the first 6 months of treatment. At the time, I thought he was cruel, now I appreciate how wise he is....
