I'm currently a month into lyme treatment (400 mg/day doxy). LLMD began treatment based on clinical symptoms. Tested 3 times negative (1 of the 3 was Western Blot) with Quest. However, LLMD just got a postive test IgG (1-64 range) for Babesia from Quest. What is the standard for treating these infections? lyme or babesia first?

LLMD wants me to go on Mepron/Zithromax. How well is that combo generally tolerated?

I would treat the Babesia first or in conjunction with the Lyme. The combo may be effective and is well-tolerated for many - each person is different. I also add 1500 mg of Artemisinin for 3 days with a 2 week break and then repeat the cycle while I am on the Mepron.

Be well,

Any way you can get your LLMD to test you through Igenex?? Quest stinks when it comes to lyme/babesia/ehrlichia testing!!!

Are you sure this is a REAL LLMD?? Don't know of any LLMD's using QUEST!

You need to at least treat babesia EARLY or you won't be able to kick the lyme. I would take the doxy another month at least since you want to be sure to knock out ehrlichiosis, which you could have.

And as Scott said, many drs use combos. My LLMD rotates the lyme and babesia meds so neither illness gets the upper hand.

welcome! [Smile]
