Hey Guys, WE need your help now. I know we keep asking for help but we really need you to be there right now and that is why each and every member is so important to us.
Many of you have seen the Associated Press article that was recently published about Dr. J. Ms. Karen Garloch, the health editor at the Charlotte Observer, is currently working on a story of her own about Dr. J that is due to be published in the coming weeks. If you have been helped by Dr. J and want to show your support or if you are a lyme patient elsewhere and are supportive of Dr. J's actions and others like him, please send an email or a written note or a phone call to Ms. Garloch as soon as possible. In order to continue to get our message out there, we need your help.!!

I believe that whatever support we can give him now will help our own LLMDs down the line.
Beth/Connie, I'm assuming that what is needed are concise descriptions of 1) how difficult it has been to overcome LD and how personally devastating it has been 2) how hard it has been to get a diagnosis 3) even after dx, how hard it has been to get treatment 4) how abx treatment helped us and how aggressive and unusual that treatment had to be (for those who use abx)
Even if your treatment doesn't follow Dr. J's protocols, or if you don't use abx at all, I think 1-3 would still help support his approach to LD.
I particularly like these statements that he made:
"We're too married to our tests," he [Jemsek] said. "Doctors just don't have time any more to think for themselves. ... I do the test, but I recognize the fallibility of the test. What's most important is how they (patients) respond to various therapies."
Doctors like Shapiro and Wormser take a dim view of Jemsek's reliance on anecdotal evidence and his sweeping assertions that the CDC and others are trying to sweep a burgeoning epidemic under the rug. While the number of cases reported last year was up 1,500 from 2004, the number of reported cases was lower in both years than the 23,764 cases reported in 2002.
"They're scared to death at the CDC, I think, that it's going to get out of control," Jemsek said. "I think the CDC fears they're going to have a mass hysteria, which they will because this is just getting bigger and bigger."

Unfortunately, those excellent statements were omitted from the version of the article that ran in my local paper. It was great that some of the papers ran the article in it's entirety, however, the edited version I saw came out with more of a feeling that Dr. J was a bad guy.
I can only hope this reporter will do a good job. Certainly, this all makes for a very interesting story. And will bring more awareness that ticks are dangerous.
