Can Lyme effect a EMG test. SeibertNeurolyme told me he thought so but I'm not sure. Since many here get twitches or fasiculations I would think it might show. ?? Thanks

I had an EMG which came back normal, and I have extensive neurolyme involvement. The fasciculations originate in the muscle tissue, and not abnormal conduction as I understand, so this makes sense.

"can lyme affect EMG"
From what i have seen, it is not likely. What other MS tests have been done?

Good morning 6T5,

I think you will find that there are varrying answers to this question.

Like most TBD testing...this may or may not show anything regardless of your illnesses.

My ECS and EMG tests happend to be abnormal, and certainly did stump the neuro.

After I got over being a human pincusion...I was somewhat pleased that at least something did prove (test wise) that there was an underlying condition.

Now...just WHAT that condition was? Well...as you may have guessed...the neuro wanted yet more testing!

This was post diagnosis, but pre positive Igenex for me, so I was even a bit undecided.

But after all was said and done, I was relieved that the testing didn't clearly point to "something else".

So, it is really a personal judgement call.
Do the test, IF you strongly suspect that there may be something other than TBDs happening and you want to probe deeper. But be prepared to end up empty handed.

My best,
M

Lyme can effect an EMG if it damages the nerve and/or effects how it works.
