Any other females stop getting their period because of lyme?
Can this be caused by candida too?
It is freaking me out. I do want to have babies some day. I am only 27.
I do not have a lyme diagnosis yet.

Go to your gyn - there is a medication that he will give you that can bring it back. Actually you should anyway because the gyn told me that they do not like us to go that long without one. I think four months is the max they like to see.
I didnt get it for about 9 months. Then I finally went to my gyn. A couple months of the medication and it started on its own. For me I am assumming it was due to lyme - no other cause was apparent with me.

This also happens to women athletes.
With lyme, there appears to be a disturbance in the HPA axis...this is the hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenal gland "communication". These glands signal one another. There is a natural supplement that is supposed to help restore this axis.
In disease the body is stressed (mental stress does the same) and cortisol levels go up initially. Long term, the adrenal glands can get "exhausted".
Pro and con about estrogen replacement. It is believed some cancers are estrogen dependent...so low levels in that respect are "protective". But...low estogen is related to osteoporosis.
There is a melatonin connection too..which is a hormone that we make from serotonin that helps us to FALL asleep. Melatonin is known to trigger antioxidant release. In lyme this is very important...the antioxidants. VERY...ESPECIALLY melatonin.
Here are some websites that may help explain. I know they are technical (abstracts), but "catch" what you can.
(This problem often happens to women athletes too. It happened to my niece who was a high school swimmer. She went thru all kinds of endocrine testing and they never found out a cause. Her periods resumed when she stopped all the work-outs (had a shoulder prob. from swimming and had to have surgery)and quit the team.)

That was the story of my life! For many many years I would skip months of periods sometimes 6 months at a time. Until I was treated for lyme, I did not know it was a part of having LD. For some people it can really mess with your hormones.
Since treatment began, my periods have been extremely regular. This is the first time they have been regular since I was 12 years old. (I'm 40 now)
I actually miss those days of not having them...... UGH
Also.... I still got pregnant and had 3 sons. they are 19,19, & 15 and they all have lyme. If you haven't been diagnosed yet, you might want to read somethings on here about pregancy & lyme (in the Newbie help links)

i have an ob/gyn appt in a couple of weeks so they will probably give me the drug to jumpstart it. i also have a natural supplement i haven't tried yet called pronin. my naturopath wanted me to try it.

Same Problem!! Haven't had one in months. Started getting irregular, lighter and now nothing!! I've always been totally regular. I agree our hormones are really out of whack from this bacteria. I do need a jump start.

Get a good bio-identical progesterone cream. It should dispense 20mg in an airtight pump. Just by introducing that hormone, all the other hormones tend to balance around it.
That's usually the first hormone to get used up in stress. That should regulate your periods again.
You can read more about it by the guy who did all the research. Dr. John Lee. www.johnleemd.com. Order one of his tapes on progesterone and it will all make sense.

When I read "The Rhodiola Revolution," one thing that caught my eye was that Rhodiola helps modulate the HPA axis.
Aha! That must be one reason why it helps Lymies!
My body is trying to go into menopause. After a lifetime of being "regular," I had missed periods, unusually heavy periods, and spotting.
When I started taking Rhodiola every morning, my periods became regular again, and the spotting stopped.

Yeah, mine stopped too when Lyme went out of control. I was totally regular before that although periods were always very painful.
I didn't have my period for many months (I can't remember how many). My PCP was going to give me hormones to make it start (something about needing to shed the uterine whatever)then suddenly I got my period. I get it occasionally now, very light and no pain.
I really don't miss having periods! hats
