Has anyone had any problems or heard of any experience doing typical adult orthodontics while on antibiotics vs. persistent lyme? (Nothing major would need to be done, no extractions or radical shifting of teeth, just correcting some mild crowding/shifting teeth over 18-24 months. Can't use Invisaligns, probably regular or Damons.) Thanks for any help.

The only thing I can think of is the tendency to have remitting-relapsing mouth sores that are syncronized with the Lyme flare up. I have this as well as some people I know. Some LLMD's i have talked to also indicate it is a common problem with Lyme patients.
Also don't forget, Some abx, even in short term use will stain the teeth with a removable brown stain color.

Thanks for the reply. I discovered long ago that a few days of taking L-Lysine tablets 2-3x a day and avoiding foods high in arginine (both amino acids) really stopped dead any mouth ulcers (canker sores), caused by an opportunistic virus. You have to take it right away--researchers found it works by actually inhibiting the virus, which is why you use it at the first sign of a problem. The arginine-high foods feed the virus, so you just temporarily avoid them for a couple of days--things like nuts and chocolate. The virus takes advantage of surface injuries in the mouth, so if I get one, I automatically take some Lysine for a few days till it heals. I haven't had a canker sore problem since I learned that.

My daughter got braces in Feb..It has been very rough..Every couple of months when there is a major adjustment, she is in bed for 2 days.
It could be the lyme disease and co's..It could be the pain and sore mouth but it also could be the metals and the reaction within the body to the toxins from them that is shoved around..
I do not know, but just be prepared for the mouth sores and additional pain..
I have put this off for years because she had so many life threatening things we had to get a better handle on first..
I am not sure if she could go back, if she would not have been ok with the overbite, etc..

Lymemomtooo, if you don't know about it already, check out www.Archedwire.com for helpful info on living with braces on their "Metal Mouth Forum" chat board, similar to this Flash one. You can post questions to get advice from experienced people about most anything to do with braces.

OOPS--typo. Correct site is www.Archwired.com My lyme brain is at work jumping ahead of itself again putting the "ed" too soon. The site is mainly for adults with braces, but most of the advice is good for any age.

I asked my husband, who is an orthodontist, your question. He replied, "I'm not aware of any problems. That doesn't mean there aren't any."
Wise comment from a guy that has watched his once very healthy and active wife turn very sick from lyme.
