My body is adjusting to this pain medicine now. I actually find its helping a lot with the nerve pain and settling my stomach. Why would that be?

A person cant stay on percocet all the time can they? I mean isn't it an addictive drug and wont most dr's refuse to give it long term?

Just figures Ill find something that will help with the pain and I wont be able to stay on it long term?

Unfortunately Nancy,

You're right.

The percocet will often times give one a false sense of wellbeing along with treating accute pain.

However...with me anyway...it's not too too effective against long term chronic type pain...

And...it will have the effect on you that will make you more aggressive.

Well it did with me anyway....

And yes...you will have to take more and more to get same effect...so it is quite addictive....

Then you'll get where I was at one point...where the same ducks that gave me the stuff told me I was abuseing the stuff...even though I was taking it as prescribed...HUH??

Ya might want to switch to methadone and see what happens...
Much easier drug to get off...

Eventually...with enough of the right abx treatments you may not have as much chronic pain any longer.....zman

I was going to pain management for nearly the whole 5 years that I was bouncing around not having a dx. My primary MD was worried about prescribing pain meds pong term and sent me there when my back pain kept getting worse along with nerve pain.

I was on various narcotics actiq as a break through but my main were vicodin and percocet combo (did increase a few times but pre treatment for Lyme and my body was still under attack) for years (with NSAIDs) and I slowly cut back and then off with no problem.

I am completely off pain meds after years of being on them, I had no withdraw issues.

I am not in pain anymore because of finally knowing I have Lyme and treating that. I don't need the medications anymore and it wasn't difficult to stop taking them.

If you have chronic pain I would try to see a pain managment MD. They are used to treating chronic pain and can address your questions and issues.

I agree with lucy. If you need your pain managed long term, find a goos pain management dr.

I am going to tell you I went through several because when you have lyme, besides the skeptical veiws of my diagnosis, there is no proof of pain.

I was treated like an addict when I said the pain med wasnt working and please change it. I dont care what you change it to just find something that works ...

I would ask your llmd if he knows a good pain dr that is sympathetic to lyme. I personally dont think that the pain dr has to understand lyme although it helps alot if he beilives in chronic lyme. What he needs to understand is pain.

I hope you find a way to keep the pain down.

Best wishes

I take percocet every so often. Usually every few days, and just one pill in the evening. It helps with the pain, puts me in a good mood, and I seem to sleep better. However, if I was to use it every day I'm sure I'd grow resistant to its effects. You need another pain management solution, but adding the occasional percocet to it isn't neccessary a bad idea.

Yes, it is a schedule 2 Narcotic and a controlled substance. However, it is quite possible to be taken safely and can help.

My interest in this would be that most pain killers require a laxative after a bit of use.

It slows down digestive/motility.

So I'm thinking that if your diet is not that great and you're on abx then your yeast buildup is now hanging out for quite a while. Your toxicity levels are increasing because nothing is getting out on a regular basis.

You could be in for a miserable surprise and reacting to the toxins from the painkiller as well as appeasing the ketes feeding off of the junk hanging around in your stomach, intestines, etc.

I've been on Percosets for a year and a half. If I'm not having a lot of pain, I don't even think about taking them.

When I herx from my Rife machine, I take them every 3 hours. My belief is that when you are in pain, the meds go to the pain. Its not like a high for a healthy person.

I went to a pain management doctor for 6 years who would never prescribe anything she thought was addictive. She gave me Ultracet which didn't help with pain at all. I told her it wasn't working and her answer was - stay off of them for 3 days and then start back. Sheesh!

The Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Centers know you're dealing with pain whether its lyme or CFS/FM (which I still think is viruses or other bacteria besides lyme).

I haven't had to go up on my meds at all. I take 10/325 mg. and they only last 3 hours when I'm herxing, so its fairly often I take them.

When I'm feeling better, I don't feel the need to take them. A good friend of mine has 2 daughters who went through very strong treatments with an illness that required heavy pain meds.

She said they weaned themselves off the pain meds by taking lesser and lesser amounts and never went through withdrawals.
