My Doc wants to add probenecid to the 3000mg of amoxy that I am taking. I understand that it keeps the levels more consistant and may help the amoxicillin to reach the brain better.
Just wanted some feedback as I have not been able to find much information on side effects etc.
Also the scientific papers are a bit over my head but it seems to interfere or compete with glutathione. ??
Has this worked for anyone or caused any problems?

I have always been on it as a mainstay with my similar 3000 mg on amoxy. For the purposes you state.
Have not noticed anything much in the way of side effects.
I think it's originally a gout medicine.
It does keep the amoxicillin levels higher in your blood (read that in a paper somewhere); it might also be in the Burrascano Guidelines somewhere..

i had a problem with probenicid in that it caused me kidney pain in the right kidney, so stopped it and just did the amoxicillin.
no problem with amoxicillin.

Hey Marsy (man, it's HARD not to type "Mary" -- !):
I have done probably three several-month long regimens of it; on it currently. Have added other things on top of it (plaquenil, flagyl, biaxin, etc) but almost always that as a mainstay. Can't say I've noticed any problems. I get the usual CBC stuff done, rarely anything off the charts other than occasional liver stuff.
Progress is kind of slow, though herxes in the beginning were fierce mothers. However, progress screeched to halt due to babesia WA1 after being in treatment for 10 months. (MY bad, not the doctor's.)
I think it's a good "backbone" for your plan and after the initial ow, a little easier tolerated than many of the other antibiotics.
