I started guafenesin protocol for orthostatic hypotension. Then, I added eye antibiotics to see if change in visual disturbance. In four days it felt like I was having herx from hell.
I thought I was going to bite the dust. Every bone in body ached even my skull. Every gland was swollen. Lumps popped up all over and they hurt too. Got fever 101. Didn't sleep for 2 days. I was up every 2 hours reheating hot pack. Could not get rid of pain.
It seems that this happens on the guafenesin protocol if you have fibromyalgia.
The lumps down my groin scared me. Thought I had cancer.
I told my husband that I finally killed myself. Then when I studied more and saw it was normal, I told him that it looked like I might live.

I've been on the protocol for almost 7 years and one who has had improvement in my orthostic problems with the guaifenesin protocol. The idea is to be on a dose that makes one feel "tolerably worse". You may need to move your dose down or change the form of guaifenesin (short acting/long acting or some combination) or your dosing schedule. You do not need to suffer horribly although it does cause herx symptoms for many who have symptoms that are consistent with fibromyalgia. The doctor who developed the protocol says it is not a herx but many on the protocol feel that it is.
I had cyclical herxes for the first several years. I had large hard lumps that went away. They got soft, hot to the touch and disolved. I also got a metallic taste in my mouth and via muscle testing needed a lot of metal detox products.
