How many of you have a positive ANA (Anti-nuclear antibody) and what has your doctor told you about this?

Is this related to lyme at all?

Thanks....Timaca

I thought that was for Lupus. You should do a search on it. I would not hesitate to call my doctor and ask if you did not last time.

I had slightly elavated ANA but tested negative for lupus.

I have read with lyme-there can be alot of inflammatory process's going on. This is one reason why my ANA was elevated. I also have had some arthritic changes in my spine cased by my lyme & this also may account.

hope this helps [Smile]
Blessings
Dana

Isn't ANA just a marker for any autoimmune disease? My daughter has been as high as 1:640, and now rests at 1:320. She has tested negative for RA and Lupus. This accompanied the mycoplasma pneumonia test, but other infections weren't included in that test.

My ANA test was at one time in the thousands. After some abx therapy it was back down to normal.

When my daughter first started manifesting bizarre health symptoms, she had an elevated ANA, which got the ducks thinking: lupus. It is my understanding that there is no definitive test for lupus--rather, it's a clinical diagnosis based on a number of factors. Finally, the ducks all decided my daughter didn't have lupus. And they also knew it COULDN'T be lyme--All together now: "There's no Lyme in (your zip code here.)" Months later, after we finally found an LLMD, he said people with active Lyme infections often present with an elevated ANA. Many of those levels go down after the LYme symptoms improve. Not always.

Hi all~ Thanks for your replies. My husband is the one with the elevated ANA, and "suspicious" Lyme tests (including a positive ELISA, positive band 39 and 30 among other things!)

After speaking with our LLMD today he said that my hubby is testing negative for lupus (he asks the lab to run those tests automatically if the ANA is positive). He also said that the ANA can be elevated in chronic disease states (lyme being one of those).

SO....end result is hubby is on antibiotics for possible lyme disease.

Thanks...Timaca
