Just finished my last day for Malarone yesterday.
LLMD said when malarone Rx was finished to start back on doxy 300mg a day.
I called to double check if I was to continue to also take the following:
zithromax 500mg x 1 daily
bactrim 800mg x 2 daily
flagyl x 1 weekly ( I am to take tomarrow)
diflucan 100mf 2 x a week
Okay. When I spoke with his nurse, I forgot to specifically mention the zithromax.
I called the pharmacy and they said that these two drugs can go together for special conditions.
I am already herxing from one doxy I took this am. Probably will go slow with starting this back.
I normally take the zith after dinner, but I just wanted to be sure.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you

Hubby took Zith and Doxy at the same time. I don't know about taking it with the Bactrim also.

Thanks for the info. I guess your husband and I both fall into that "special" category!
I know the nurse specifically told me to take the bactrim and others.
Hope I am not in for a herx from heck tomarrow when it is time for flagyl!!!
Thanks again.

I'm taking Doxy 400mg, Zith 250 2X per day and artemesinin via my LLMD. I am being treated for lyme and babs at this point and another med will be added in March. I'd be interested to know what "special" condition these 2 drugs might be used for. Terry

I suppose the pharmacist meant something other than your daily run of the mill infections.
I told her I was being treated for Lyme disease and coinfections and her response was "Oooohhhhh".
Maybe I scared her. As you know we just don't have Lyme in La. (ha ha)
Although Walmart pharmacy has all of my prescriptions in their data base, as I listed my meds and dosages all she could say was "Whoa!"
I probably would have really freaked her out if I had told her my neighbor has it, my husband has it and I have it.
We have another neighbor down the road who has a multitude of Lyme symptoms, has admitted to pulling off numerous ticks
but is the the River of De-Nial!
I decided to just believe that all of us with Lyme are "special".
Thanks for the info re: zith and doxy. Now if I can summon my courage up to take my flagyl today....
Maybe then I'll feel "extra special"

Different types of abx inhibit the bacteria in different ways, so a combination can be especially effective.

From what I gather, it is just the different combinations, and going through whole course of ABX for the conifections.
Hubby went through Doxy, Zith, and then Flagyl. I don't know the best answer, I just know I hope everyone can get better.
I can see the reactions when my husband takes the different ABX. You can see it in his eyes, good days, bad days. We're just hoping for more and more good days.
Best wishes to all.
