I received this E-mail from a Doctor. The last case involves a Lyme Vaccine pulled from the market. You may want to tell others about that case in particular. I left the rest of the medications in the post if others want to check the risks with their medications closer.

The following is the Doctors opinion.

Friends here is a sobering list of drugs who have had such adverse effects that their makers (and prescribers) are being sued. The suits are so frequent that they have been lumped into class action suits. These suits are granted relative press censorship by the press so as not to risk having us legal prescription drug users start to lose confidence in this huge industry (Pfizer alone has an annual financial statement larger than Sweden.) Let the buyer, the consumer of these dangerous synthetic chemicals, and the prescriber beware. Gary.

Class Action Settlements and Verdicts:

Cardizem. A $21 million dollar settlement fund has been created as part of the settlement in the class action lawsuit filed on behalf of consumers who took the heart medication Cardizem CD, or any of its generic equivalents, between 1998 and the present. Class members must file their claims by September 23, 2003 in order to be awarded settlement funds. (Aug-13-03) [SETTLEMENT WEBSITE]
Bristol-Myers Squibb. A $62.5 million settlement has been reached in the class action lawsuit filed against Bristol-Myers Squibb, the manufacturer of the cancer-fighting medicine Taxol. The suit alleged that the company conspired to keep lower priced generic equivalents of the breast and ovarian cancer medication off the market. The class consists of 400,000 patients who used Taxol between 1999 and 2003, and they are expected to receive $400 to $2,600 back. (Jul-30-03) [SETTLEMENT WEBSITE]
GlaxoSmithKline. A settlement has been reached in the class action lawsuit filed against GlaxoSmithKline, the manufacturer of the discontinued Lymerix Lyme disease vaccine. The suit alleged the vaccine could cause an arthritic condition in some people. According to the judge's ruling, "This lawsuit had two primary purposes at its inception: to warn patients of the drug's potential dangers, and to provide funds to plaintiffs for ongoing medical monitoring. The first goal is met by removal of the drug from the market; the second was not pursued because it was deemed unnecessary." (Jul-09-03) [KANSAS CITY STAR]
