One of my early problems--along with all the other left side problems(after a left side bite)--was bakers cyst behind the left knee. My local doc of course said it was not related.

Thanks for posting!

Thx for posting, CaliforniaLyme --

I have painful lumps everywhere now -- behind the knee, swelling around the knee, in the calves, a spreading one in the thigh -- how do we know if it's a baker's cyst, a ruptured cyst, a lipoma or something else?

And I don't have any effective med treatment for Lyme right now as I have reacted to meds and we're not sure if there is any other I can take yet.

Yep.. I had one. It looked exactly like the picture- and it was behind my right knee.

I had an orthopedic guy tell me it would never go away (this was before my dx with Lyme).. but it DID completely go away.

I would really get this checked out by a doc just to have it checked out!!! Popliteal cysts in Lyme from
what I have read are from inflammation of synovial sacs which fill with fluid!!!! I would wonder if you have a synovial sac above your knee as well as below- if so you could have them drained by a needle inserted into them I believe- which would relieve pressure which would relieve pain if that was what it is from- it could be a very simple remedy!!!!

Synovitis

Definition of Synovitis

Synovitis is the inflammation of a synovial (joint-lining) membrane, usually painful, particularly on motion, and characterized by swelling, due to effusion (fluid collection) in a synovial sac.

Description of Synovitis
Synovial fluid is a transparent, viscid fluid secreted by the synovial membrane and found in joint cavities, bursae, and tendon sheaths.

Analysis of synovial fluid aspirated from a joint can confirm or rule out various joint diseases such as traumatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Tree -- I clicked on the newbie link, but don't know how to find the info -- how do we find a topic there?

Bpeck, what did you do to get yours to go away?

CaliforniaLyme -- what kind of a doc would know? So far, any doctor I've gone to doesn't seem to know what's going on, and that's been very discouraging for me. I've thought the lumps might be a combo of joint swelling plus lipomas, which don't show in ultrasound and MRIs.
