Thesis: in the presence of Mercury toxicity, even smallest amounts of other toxins are the last straw that broke the camels back, not the primary cause.
We should all organize an "indoor air quality inspection" by an expert in the field. Often we find significant mold levels in homes, insufficient ventilation, polluted crawl spaces that leak toxic gases into the indoor environment, outgasing of volatile organic compounds (VOC's) from carpet floors or toxic building materials and many other problems that have synergistic effects with mercury in the brain.
People becoming ill after the neighborhood was sprayed by government licensed pest control efforts or after a childcare facility was re-carpeted or started using TV dinners for the children which were microwaved in their respective plastic containers.
Phthalates and Bisphenol A (plastic softeners) and PBDE's (flame retardants): tranplacental transport from mother to fetus and poisoning via breast milk are worst in the US but increasing worldwide.
The above and mountains of other information was heard by us this weekend at a Seminar held for doctors treating autism and for parents. I will post some of the information as I have time.
Take care.

Gigi, you are back! Hooray! This is the first I've seen you in a while.
Thank you for this valuable information.
I have stripped my home of chemicals and had an environmental inspector check it out for mold, lead, general air quality, etc.
My problem, like so many, is that I live next to a highway.
I haven't tried any detoxification methods yet. I am grappling with abx and clean food with chemical-free home.
Any suggestions for detoxing metals gently?

Hi GiGi, thanks for this information.
Our house is a former meth lab and the insulation in the attic is black with mold. We also have 2 other places with mold.
7 out of 8 have become sick this past year...all 7 diagnosed with Lyme. We've only been in our house a year. Coincidental??
I know we need to have these tested, but who do you get to run the test?

I don't think you shold call it coincidental. Some time agO I posted some info from Dr. K. about Mold. Maybe you can pull this up and find out a bit more. It has a major impact on health -
Scott, I am sure you took down the sources for the different mold testing. You are such a meticulous record keeper! Please help out.
Take care.

Mold and Lyme both add stress to the body. Someone could have Lyme and not have significant symptoms and then move into a moldy home and hit the limit of what the body can handle and you then become ill.
It sounds to me that part of the solution to your health issues is likely GET OUT of the moldy home. Unfortunately, my experience working with people seems almost that people are drawn to the things that make them ill and with moldy homes, they don't want to leave for some reason....and as a result, they will often never get well.

This is what we were told by the people who are treating immune compromised people:
Molds are spore forming organisms. The spores hatch in the human body, often in the nasal passages, and release potent neurotoxins.
Neurotoxins destroy the ability of the nervous system to both develop and function normally.
Neurotoxins are often also immunotoxins and alter or suppress functions of our immune system.
Some neurotoxins are also carcinogens.
Mold grows in moist areas of the house. The spores spread from there to other parts of the house and are impossible to remove completely.
(This input from people who really see and treat only very sick people. In almost ten years, I myself have yet to meet or hear about one patient who only suffers because of Lyme. That person I do not think exists. It is very apparent that only a multiple "attack" brings success.
Take care.

Can I ask a dumb question? What is the difference between mold and mildew?
We have a leak in the a/c unit, which is inside a closet, and is turning the walls black. Does that mean its toxic mold or could be just harmless? Thanks if anyone knows.

I think it is just a term used more generically, but most likely mold.
It seems like the kind of book I can share with family members to start to introduce some of these ideas (about toxins in the home) without blowing them out of the water.
