Sometimes I feel like I have to force myself to breathe. It's like my body doesn't want to do it. To describe it best, it would be like experiencing sleep apnea while wide awake.
It's very scary and the most troublesome while trying to get to sleep at night. I'm hoping this might be a babs symptom, but I haven't been tested yet.
If this isn't lyme related, any possibilities as to what it could be?

I've heard others complain about it here. I think most of them attribute it to the babesia. I used to have this symptom, but it wasn't severe for me.
Hope you get some answers soon and some RELIEF!!

Yes.. it can rattle your cage when it happens.
Note- I am NOT a doctor... but I do dance.
Some describe it as "air hunger". I describe it as feeling like I forget to breath and have to remember to do it.
It could be.. if like what I have... a hitch in your sympathetic nervous system.
From what I understand mine is from some neuro thing going on that interupts your brain and doesn't send the automatic signal that says breathe.
I relate it to babesiosis... but again I am NOT a doctor.

I have this, and was tested with both a sleep study at night and a day time oxygen meter that I wore for 24 hrs.
In both cases, night and day, I was having hypopneas, which are very shallow breathing on a continuum with apnea, and just as dangerous if you have a lot of them. I had two during the day, and 29 per hour in sleep.
I now use a CPAP machine, and it has helped my deep sleep and energy levels a lot. During the day, I try to consciously remember to use my belly and breathe deeper, but it is hard to do.
I was told it was due to my documented brain damage and resulting dysautonomia, but who knows for sure.

Yes I have this, It got very bad when starting Bicillin and LLD said it was Babesia, started Mepron and it eased but came back with avengance when I stopped Mepron - So I think it is linked to Babesia.
