My daughter is taking 500 mg of Azithromycin and
two 800/160 tabs of SUlfameth/Trimethetrophan (Biaxin) a day... for LD and Babesia.

Has been on the Zithro for a month and added the Biaxin last week...

Let me tell you she is feeling like crap! (which I understand might be good)...but my question is this:

One of her symptoms is chest and rib pain and I am not sure if this is possibly a herxheimer reaction or if I should be taking her to the ER (Pain is on the right side) Have a call into our LLMD...but no response yet.

Ive been pushing her to drink lots of water and she takes a lot of Acidophilus...

Anyone else have this kind of pain on Abx? Might it be a herx or something more dire?

I'm worried but dont want to let on to her and dont want to run to the ER unecessarily either.

adding that I also wonder if her doses are similar to what others have had. The pharmacist asked about the Biaxin...wondering if "the dosing was correct"...

LLMD has not yet called back and I am getting a little more nervous

Sorry elle, I can't help you. Hubby hasn't had any pain like that.

I'm sure someone else will follow along shortly with some info. Take care.

A fellow lymenet vet, Charlie, feels Bactrim is good for Babesia. We were discussing an option if Mepron was not available to us.

My daughter gets pain in her ribs all the time on the right side. Can't tell you if it's liver problems, but I know the rib pain is a transient thing with my daughter. Part of herxing, in her case, because her liver levels are always very good.

Tell your daughter there is a war in her body. Don't let Darth Vader win!

Thanks Kelly!

She is getting the bacrtin for babesia and Lyme. And I know she will appreciate your remarks about Darth Vadar.

It is reassuring to know that others have gotten her kind of pain.

Seems every day, her symptoms jump...yesterday, horrible headache, this morning, she got weepy and irritable and tonight...the chest/rib pains..

Maybe this means the chest pains will be gone tomorrow. I hope so.

I know many Lyme patients get chest pain....but I'm very glad you called her doctor.

BTW, it's BACTRIM, not bactrin.

Does her LLMD advocate backing off the meds when she herxes hard??

Let her back off of her meds or get off of them completely until she starts to feel better. Take note that what she is taking is considered a pretty high dose for someone starting lyme treatment. I have been in treatment for 6 months now and there is still no way that I could reach that amount of antibiotics without throwing myself into a severe herx...

Pain in ribs sounds like it could be liver or muscular pain. She needs to detox and supplements to relax muscles if it is muscular (magnesium, b-vitamins, vitamin d, vitamin c, ect.)

My husband gets severe rib pain at time. Liver, pancreas, etc., etc. have all checked out. It's always good to have those things looked at though.

Bactrim gave me one of the worst herxes. It is great at hitting bart, and increases the effectiveness of babs meds.

Make sure your daughter has a lot to drink, this drug can cause kidney stones.

Hope she feels better.

I also get bad rib pain and upper back pain (either side of spine).

Sometimes a heating pad helps. I just found a chest herbal warming bag on line. Looking forward to using it.

I think I go to same dr as your daughter (Dr S in howell?)

Saw him today after my worst herx ever last night.

He added a lot of herbs. Also, got real bad when I first started Biaxin, and he told me to half it until I felt better. That worked.

She does see Dr. S in Howell...he called me back this afternoon and said the pain was lyme symptoms...He didnt seem too concerned and didnt suggest backing off or adding any herbs...she does take lots of acidophilus,,,but that's more to prevent yeast and GI sx...she seems better today..thanks for your support, everyone!

I get rib cartalage fractures. I always get them when I herx, or in the past before i knew i had lyme, i would get them when all my other symptoms would get worse.
