Yesterday, accidentally, I took double dose of Rifampin (2x600mg).
I said to me this would kill me.
However, it turned out today I feel much better.
So should I took double dose of Rifampin thereafter?
BTW, I am pulsing abx TTS and rifing, which seems working but very slow.
Overall I am improving, however, the pains from feet, hips and hands still remain unchanged or worse.
Today these symptoms seem obviously improved.
Maybe Bart. is my current worst enemy and I should try the abx (gentamycin?)mentioned recently that is effective for Bart.

Hi, Call your LLMD and let them know what happened and the goodd result you had.
Until you hear from your doctor do not double your dose unless your doctor ok's it. Rifampin is one of the antibiotics that is harder on the liver than others. Follow your doctor's advice only. Take care.

Wow....hubby only takes 2 x 150 mg per day. So even your normal dose is higher than hubby's.

Watch out for yeast with that rifampin...
It lowers the effectiveness of diflucan.
I seriously did not like rifampin....for some reason that antibiotic
Was very hard on my body. I had bladder spasms, muscle spasms,
Cramps in legs and feet almost nightly.
I hope to never do that one again.
Hope this good day is not a prelude to a herx... which for me happens
Usually about 2-3 days after starting new meds.
Hugs,

I second Lymebyte's caution about the liver. Rifampin is known to be hard on the liver, even for non-Lyme/Bart patients. I have to go for very frequent liver enzyme tests while on Rifampin and I never even made it near the 600 mg.
Have you ever herxed on Rifampin? I can't imagine the herxes on 1200 mg - the herxes on the low dose are enough to do me in!
Yes, Gentamicin is used for Bart, it's supposed to be quite effective, but can be hard on the kidneys so needs to be monitored.

I have been on this regimen, pulsing 600mg of Rifampin and 200mg of Mino TTS, for over two months now with some improvements, especially on ear ringing and sleep.
I did have herx on the same day when I was on abx at the beginning, but the 1200mg didn't cause any herx just improvement, and I am still alive.
This may be due to pulsing, so I can tolerate high dose.
Anyway, I'll take your advise and remain on the low dose.

Dave, I think it's great you are doing so well.
The pulses sound like they are working for you. Great to hear. Just don't push too hard.
Take care.

I don't believe doubling up on one dose is a big deal. I do believe Rifampin is not an appropriate drug for pulsing though. My LLMD specifically warned me about problems developing from missing doses. There is much literature on this.
I'm currently on 600mg with a bunch of other stuff in the mix. No problems except a little sleepy.
I believe the liver stuff associated with Rifampin is primarily a result from the other drugs it is combined with in the tx of TB. My LMD said he has never seen any problems with liver profile associated with Rifampin in lyme patients.
