It looks like I am all scheduled for my PICC line this Thursday and will be on rocephin 2g/day.
There's been a lot written here about this treatment and I am just hopeful that it will help me.
I don't feel nervous right now but I am sure by Wed I will be getting a bit anxious. I know from others that it is not so bad but I guess new things can seem a little frightening at first!
So I thank you for any words of advice or encouragement.

Hi Guys: I have been very sick with lyme and several coinfections. I have had two picc lines for iv rocephin treatments last year.
The big thing to remember with a picc line is to keep it dry. You will need a sleeve or some type of wrap covering to keep the site dry while bathing. If the dressing becomes wet, it can attract and help bacteria to fester at the site, which is a big no-no. I had a little mesh covering for it during the day to keep everything tucked in nicely.
Many other people here have had picc lines. They are not that hard to maintain. You will do fine with your treatment!!! Keeping the lyme under control and eradicating it is the big thing!!! Keep us posted and good luck with all!!! Skater

I had a picc line for awhile there and was doing fine until they started using some sort of ointment on the site that contained mineral oil, to which I am HIGHLY allergic.
Turns out I started oozing blood in between dressing changes, and then when I requested some blood cultures due to a sudden increase in symptoms (sweats, sometimes overt psychosis), they discovered I had staph. So to put it bluntly, be careful.

Quick question though. I spoke to the infusion company and they confirmed with my LLMD that they will be doing a picc line but the way it was described to me is that the picc won't go all the way to the heart and therefore won't need an x-ray after inserted.
I didnt ask many questions but she seemed to say that this method is becoming more common and is still a picc line and not a mid line and therefore can last a while.
The procedure is done at the LLMD's office and I know that he's prescribed many of these over the years so I don't want to question it, but I just haven't heard anyone mention this type here before.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
