I am on a lot of Amox and two pills of pediatric dose Malarone. I was going to ramp up to three Malarone after three weeks on two and BAM~!

I have all the neuro stuff with full body aches and weakness that I experienced two years ago before Rocephin treatment. Also have nausea and earaches and right eye headache and depression.

Can this little amount of Malarone pack such a whallop?

I saw LLMD about tick rebite from two weeks ago, but he was under the impression that the amount of abx I was on would kick it.

I'm feeling really worried about the possibility of reinfection tipping the neuro-scales. I also know Babesia treatment can make you feel pretty rugged.

Gosh, this is hard and soooo undefined... Sage words anyone?

Lost in the what-if underground,

Hey Wiser,

I dont know about sage words or anything about Malarone, but.... If you did get re-infected the amoxicillin would work for the lyme but doxycycline is alway prescribed for new bites as it covers erlichiosis, mycoplasma etc. I would ask the doctor about that.

About a month ago I made a comment to my doctor about the fact that I have plenty of amoxicillin leftover if I get a tick bite. How much should I take? He said no, you must take doxycycline immediately.

Sorry you are having to go through this, Since your feeling lost in the what if underground. Ask him what if I take some doxy as a precautionary measure?

Bye the way did you get a look at the tick?

Hi Marsy!

Never even saw a tick; just two bites.

Thanks for the reply! Think I'll call my LLMD again...

Hope you are doing well.

Best,

wiserforit

Hi Wiser!

Just me adding my 2 cents again -- after all, we have been on the same regimen.....

I definitely think it is a malarone herx/adjustment. Yes, even with the one-half adult dose (2 ped doses) that you are taking. At three weeks, that is probably around when I REALLY noticed that malarone was kicking my butt big time.

I got Welchol from our llmd -- it is an old cholesterol medication that absorbs bile acids; that is, it seems somewhat useful to me as a herx-reducer/neuro-toxin or whatever toxin reducer. I take it in the early afternoon, hours away from the amoxy and malarone.

I hope you can take it easy and hang in there! Wish I could say that it gets easier in a few days, but it might. Or a week or so. Killing the babs is really worth it and we reap the benefit over the long-term. I have had ups and downs but definitely feel better, the trend is good. And the malarone gets much easier after 6-8 weeks....

I agree with True and some others that have noticed this -- the amoxy and malarone seem to potentiate each other or work synergistically. It was, during the past year, the mother of all herxes for me. But it passes. I was taking it one day at a time around the 3rd week on malarone. Maybe delay ramping up on the amoxy.

Sounds like the doxy is a good idea if you possibly had a re-bite. Can't hurt, but you would have to stay away from this lovely sun. I read recently that malarone also might make one sun sensitive, but I have not noticed that (although not exactly a sun worshipper).

Take care and see if you can get past this!
