it's 3:54 in the morning and I am so darn sick with nausea, sweats and head-ringing. It's Murphy's Law since my period should start now PLUS I'm supposed to leave on Cape vacation on Saturday a.m.
I stopped the Malarone due to gut pain 7 days ago. My babs symptoms have gotten so bad for the past two weeks that I feel like I just want to curl up or go to the hospital (yeah right). Night time has gotten so bad for me.
I'm on 6 Amox *875 mg, and nothing other than that at present. I'm sweating like crazy, feel nauseous and weepy, get chills and sweats and have a minor head ache associated with the ear ringing that gets worse everytime I lie down.
I think the Malarone really stirred things up. None of my arthritic symptoms are happening -- so that is good, but the babs symptoms are horrendous. I'm a little paranoid as to whether this is just herxing or the fact that two little bullseyes showed up two weeks ago. LLMD and I were hoping that the high dose Amox would kick the critters.
Will call my LLMD in the morning, but I just don't see how I'm going to get through this. I'm worried about ruining vacation -- going to meet West Coast relatives for long-awaited reunion.
Feeling so over-sensitized and I just keep getting worse. It's not improving with time, it's intensifying. Does this just shut your brain down?
Any tricks to leap through some of this fire?

Hi Tori, So sorry to hear that you are feeling this sick. These things are always worse right before our period, it is the same for me. I am sending you a PM now.

Dear Wiseforit,
I am in the same boat as you......babs herx.
It is no fun ride...
Hang in there.
I saw my LLMD yesterday and besides a Lyme flare up, his impressions
Of my deteriorating condition are related to a big babs herx.
I have felt like this for most of the month.
I know how bad you are feeling.
You are not alone.
Call your LLMD....
Could you maybe postpone your vacation by a week or two?
I am sorry you are feeling so bad.
Sending you positive thoughts and prayers.
Hugs,
Geneal

So are you still off babs medication? I know my babs symptoms came roaring back when I went off Mepron for a week. It's tough, but you will feel better as you get rid of the babs.

I agree, it only takes days for babs to return. Maybe you can get on a babs med that is a little easier on the gut.
Have you tried anything else other than malarone? Did you take it with food?
Feel better soon.

Hi Wiser,
I was up with you at 3:58am and tried twice to post here but my computer at home is acting up and I lost each post.
I have babs too but am not nearly as sick as you. That may be because I may have a recent infection from a 5/12/07 tickbite. Before that bite, my only symptom was joint pain which I was managing very well on alternative meds. My only antibiotic was a very low dose of minocycline.
After the tickbite I got very, very sick and sought out an LLMD who would take the bite seriously.
She is also a rheumatologist so I feel very fortunate to have found her.
The first thing she did after running a gazillion test was to put me on Plaquenil. She did this for my RA, but I read it is also helpful for babesia.
Test results showed my adrenals to be flat morning, noon and evening. The only time my adrenals were working was at midnight which explains why I wake up around 2am all the time.
She said we had to get the adrenals up and running before we could begin to kill anything because the cortisol helps hold down inflammatory response. So for 30 days I was on supplements for my adrenals. I'm still on them for an indefinite period of time.
After 30 days, she began 1000mg amoxicillan 2x daily and 500 mg 2x daily of biaxin and prevacid 2 x daily. This combo is for H. Pylori which I keep testing positive for despite the fact I have had treatment as recent as 04/07. Dr says treatment was not long enough.
If I tolerate this well, she will increase the biaxin to 1000mg twice daily which is strong enough to deal with the babs.
I just started the pills on 7/27, so a little soon to know for sure, but so far I am tolerating it fine. I am taking 2 aspirin morning and 2 evening to keep inflamation down and this is helping with any joint pain.
Before I began the amox & biaxin, I was starting to space out mentally. It was mild but kept me from focusing on anything. That has completely cleared up with this current treatment.
For detox, I drink lots of water. Rebound at least 30 mins a day, hot baths with epsom salts and skin brush (at same time) once a week. I do yoga stretches daily and deep breath while doing this. Deep breathing is a form of detox.
Hopefully some of this may be of help to you. Especially talk to your doctor about the adrenal fatigue. It could be keeping you from healing.

So sorry to hear your feeling so ill! Has your dr ever talked to you about taking bromelian with tha amoxi? My late llmd Dr P in bala cynwood Pa.,said the amoxi was way more affective if taken with this. It's an enzyme extracted from pineapples, very innexpensive also.Sure hope you feel better soon!!!

Feeling so very woozy, so I haven't had a chance to get back to everyone.
buckfever -- the bromelain sounds totally worth a try! Thanks for your support and response.
luvs2ride -- it sounds like you have a really great doctor! Recently had my adrenals checked and they looked okay...but that was weeks before this hit. Despite being so weak and dizzy, I am trying to stretch, meditate and breath. Walking 30 minutes was part of my routine, but it's a little hard now. I'm also drinking spring water like crazy because I'm sweating so hard all the time. Thank you for your insights.
sixgoofykids and savebabe -- the babs symptoms were getting intense before I stopped taking the Malarone. BUT...you are right, they are slamming me while I'm off the pills. Like Babs is saying, "Oh yeah, take that! and that! and that!" while slapping my face left and right. I do take the Malarone with pills after reading that fat helps Mepron go down. Thanks for your support.
Geneal -- I'll PM you!
Hail Vermonter -- thank you for your PM! The family vacation advice was great. You know, I could cancel and just send my boys to the Cape; but, if I have a choice of where to be sick... I'll go with the ocean views!
I feel like my brain and body are turning to liquid! This is hard, but everyone's sweet responses keep me moored.
Thanks with love

hi wiserforit,
Anytime I have ever gone off abx even for a few days I get very sick really quickly and my
personal opinion as a lyme patient is that for me this has been due to the babs.
I have been herxing since I started the babs treatment so I really feel for you..
I get the lightheaded weak feeling like I am going to fall down thing too..
also sweats/chills. and a bunch of other stuff...
all of which my period does make worse.
Hope you can enjoy your vacation through all your symptoms.
