I've read a lot about Plaquenil, I'm going to start it in about 3 weeks. I have often read that it causes a lot of pain in joints which makes sense because one of it's actions is as a cyst buster. We know that Lyme cysts settle in joints.

But here's the question. Of those of you who have tried Plaq, did it cause any joint symptoms if you had none to begin with? Many of the posts that I've read tell of people who had joint symptoms and were put on plaq, I can find little from those without joint problems that were put on plaq.

Thoughts?

Plaquenil is actually supposed to reduce joint pain. It is used to reduce pain in people with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

I have a tape of Dr H talking about Plaq being used for cysts. He states that it takes about 3wks to start breaking them open.

I have taken it in the past since I have the DR4 problem (another nice thing to add to the picture)

I have heard that it can take several months to see a differnce. It is suppose to modulate the immune system without suppressing it.

One thing re: Plaq, it has Propylene Gylcol in it (which I am allergic to) so I have to get it compounded. I found a compounding pharm that files with your ins, helps cut down the cost. [Smile]

No, it helped my finger joints. I had been having some pains in thumb and finger joints a couple of months ago, but haven't had any recently. I'm currently on my third month of Plaquenil, 400 mg/day. I've been on it a couple of times before, for 4 or 5 months at a time, and had no problems.

The eye damage from Plaquenil takes years to build up. I get my eyes checked every 6 months. My eye doctor feels this is very, very safe and we would find any damage before it had a noticeable impact on my vision.

I asked him once if he has ever seen the eye damage. He said yes, but it has been on people taking Plaquenil for about 20 years who were never told to get them tested for toxicity damage.

My Eye Doc has a Plaq eye testing machine (uses a red light) For the last 2 yrs, my eye have tested fine. [bow]

She has one patient that has been on plaq for over 10 yrs for RA and said that women has never had a problem either.

So, if you take it, find a Educated Eye Doc with a Plaq testing maching
