"The numerous antigens present in whole-cell assays can result in cross-reaction with antibodies to other microorganisms or tissue components. Many diseases have been reported to cause significant cross-reactivity in IgM and/or IgG assays. Among such diseases are autoimmune disorders, Epstein-Barr virus infection, bacterial endocarditis, syphilis, other spirochetal infections, and Helicobacter pylori infection."
I tested positive for H Pylori (a stomach bacteria) over 4 years ago for which I was given a round of antibiotics which I was told would cure me.
Now I am worried. Do you think my Western Blot for Lyme at Labcorp which showed positive bands (18, 23, 66 and igm 39) could be a false positive if I still have h pylori in my system? Or are the tests too specific?
Thank you!!

Yes, I had a sore on the inside of my ankle 12 years ago. Following this was a flu like illness where the hospital told me was a virus. Since then my health has only deteriorated and I was originally diagnosed with fibromyalgia a few years ago.

I will never for sure if this was a tick bite but it definitely preceded a multitude of symptoms for me.

No question about it--you've got lyme! You need to get to a Lyme-literate medical doctor ASAP... others will help you with this.

Then I would say YES, you probably have Lyme and not something else.
Band 39: Unknown what this antigen is, but based on research at the National Institute of Health (NIH), other Borrelia (such as Borrelia recurrentis that causes relapsing fever), do not even have the genetics to code for the 39 kDa antigen, much less produce it. It is the most specific antibody for borreliosis of all.
I really doubt that h.pylori can make this band show up. If you're still concerned, call Igenex and ask some questions.

I have received so much great feedback from this site! My primary care doctor has pretty much given me the Lyme diagnosis but prefers I see a LLMD for treatment. I am waiting on my Igenex results, which should be back in a couple of days, and then I will begin my treatment.
I guess I am just afraid that after being ill for so long and finally getting an answer that I will find out I don't have Lyme after all and I will be back to square one! When I saw that h pylori could show on a Western Blot it makes me nervous!
