Hi,
I want to know if anyone knows out there how many folks really die of Bart or Lyme.
I am worry b/c I have it and wondering the statistics?
I only see a few here on the site that may have past on from it.
From what I see most just suffer or get better or relaps.

Stacy,

I do not think that anyone knows how many folks ultimately die from TBDs. There is a lymenet member, Melanie, who has set up a memorial page for those that have.

I believe that most can get better if you keep treating and work with a good doctor! Keeping optimistic in the face of this struggle is important. Take care.

"Bartonella bacilliformis is the only bacterium known to invade human erythrocytes. The pathogen is the causative agent of the human disease, Oroya fever, a biphasic illness whose primary-phase symptoms include a severe hemolytic anemia, where up to 100% of the circulating erythrocytes can be parasitized and 80% lysed (1, 15, 31). If untreated, this phase of the disease has a 40% fatality rate (44)." Late stage bart rarely results in death...dont worry susan...your a late stager right?

Wait--B. henselae doesn't invade HUMAN erythrocytes?

What about the studies they conducted in which they demonstrated

that the bug is invincible inside red blood cells?

NOTE: MOST Lyme deaths are foreseeable and thus preventable. Cardiac Lyme you generally learn what is going on and not just drop dead and it's rare. ALS Lyme you know ahead of time but can't stop it usually. Suicides are most common way to go which is form the Lyme/TBDs. Anoxic encephalopathy which is a common way to go is COMPATIBLE WITH BABESIOSIS and in my opinion is probably from that a good % of the time.
So get treated for Babs even if you are negative because many people are, don't kill yourself, pray you don't get ALS symptoms and get your heart checked out if you have any problems.
