I really need some advice. Last night i started getting some tooth and jaw pain that kept me awake most of the night. today the pain has gotten much worse and progressed into a throbbing nerve type of pain.

I went to the dentist and he wasnt quite sure exactly what was causing it. He thinks it may be a dead tooth that needs to be removed but is not exactly sure. The pain is localized in my upper left jaw area and sometimes spreads to the lower left jaw a little bit. The pain varies in degree but when it gets bad its the worst pain ive ever felt. Im doubled over and theres nothing i can do. Ive taken tons of advil and some perkoset. basically when the nerve pain flares up nothing touches it.

He thinks its one of two things:
A dead tooth that needs to be removed or some tmj type facial neuralgia and that it will hopefully go away with time.

I have had a very sensitive tooth on my upper left side which had been aching slightly but i only really noticed it when i ate something hot or cold and actually when i breathed in cold air.

That is the tooth we think that might be causing all of this pain.
Its really hard for me too tell when the pain is really bad becuase it spreads all over in my upper jaw and i cant tell where its coming from. I also asked him about possible cavitation and he said that wouldnt cause this type of pain.

I am supposed to call an oral surgeon tommorwo and have him find where the pain is coming from and remove the tooth if thats what is causing it.

I have some questions for any of you who might know anything about thos type of pain.

First, do u think this is more of a dental issue of some sort of tmj neuralgia? Has anyone with lyme had this sort of localized neuralgia? Do u think it could be some sort of jawbone cavitation?

Thanks for any info.
Joe

Joe,

I have had "dental" pain in lower right molar for about 10 years having gone to see several dentists over time who filled, refilled, crowned, etc.

At the beginning of the year, I finally got a root canal on it.

For me, the root canal has helped somewhat.

But I have a combination of TMJ and trigeminal neuralgia on the right side of face plus during some of the really worst parts of this disease,

Clenched through the night.

This pain has been so bad but has improved in intensity and frequency since the root canal which did not do anything for the trigeminal aspect of it.

Antibiotic treatment and time have decreased the clenching through the night, which helps.

You really might need your tooth pulled, I'd see what the oral surgeon has to say.
