Hello everyone!
This has been one of my symptoms that keeps coming back for months, then disapears or is reduced to nothing some weeks.

What happens is that at night I fall asleep just fine and I can sleep through that night, though I do wake up and turn a few times.
Then around 5 AM my body will wake me up with a buzzing someplace in my body. Usually then also my knees start to ache. I can ignore this and go back to sleep but then this cycle will repeat every hour or half hour until I give up and get up. By now, I am more of a train wreck that I was at 5 AM. Before the buzzing was in my abdomen, then later my knee. Sometimes it seems all over.

Does anyone know this is from?
I know my Sympathetic Nervous system is out of whack during the day. Car honks, phone rings, e-mail alerts can all make me jump.

It almost seems like its the natural part of the body that wakes you up every morning, just that it
is set on 100 instead of 1

At one point I was taking Valium before I went to bed, and that seemed to sqwash the 5 AM beast.

I have the same thing.

However, my wake up time can vary from 4:00 am to 5:30 am.

I usually roll over and then my heart starts beating fast.

I go to sleep like a rock too.

No buzzing, just rapid heart beat.

Maybe connected to my dysautonomia issues.

It's the Lyme Disease, obviously, but it is affecting the nervous system, as well as probably the part of your brain that controls your sleep cycle.

The moment the sun comes up, whether I went to bed at 9 p.m. or 1 a.m. -- I will wake up, and get extremely poor quality of sleep from 5 a.m. onward. This changes as the seasons change. When the clock moves forward, or back -- My body adjusts to the sunlight.

It is a horrible symptom, because I wake up feeling absolutely horrible if I try to go back to sleep. Sometimes I'll wke up "so-so" if I just go to bed at 9p.m. and don't try to be a hero with my schedule. But any later, and I'm screwing myself over for the next day.

I'd be up all night too if I didn't take drugs to sleep. I'm up to 2mg of Ativan and it's starting to wear off. I'm not sure where to go next. [Frown]

I can usually sleep for about 4 hours (on Klonopin 1 mg for restless legs and was using Rozerem) then up every hour or two, then lousy sleep the rest of the morning. Then it got worse and I pretty much was just barely getting the 4 hrs.

So my NP put me on low dose Seroquel. I'm really sensitive to meds, so we started at 12.5 mg and it helped, but then I moved it up to 25 mg and that works pretty good. I have to take it around 9 pm, even if I go to bed later, because it tends to cause hangovers otherwise. I still have the same sleep pattern, but am able to go back to sleep and for the most part have deep sleep.

This is what my guess is about this symptom.
The Sympathetic Nervous System is out of whack, broken, stuck on ALERT!
Part of the job of the Sympathetic Nervous System is to pre-wake you up every morning, by getting your heart rate back up, warming the body, get things moving again in the GI,
and other ease into waking things like inner alarm clock. Mine has always been screwed up since October 2006 when my serious Lyme/Babs symptoms first appeared.

Like others have mentioned the waking up atvery early, like 2 AM, then only sleeping hour clocks after that. When the duck gave me low dose valium, my sleep went back to normal almost. When I stopped the valium the 5 AM wake-up started, though today it was 7 AM.

My guess is the Valium calmed the Sympathetic Nervous System so it faded back to a normal routine. I also took Melatonin a few times.
How would someone calm the Sympathetic Nervous System?

Think that I'll take Valium tonight before bed with Melatonin and see what happens. I don't think I will need to take it everynight.

Anyways, I will start Bicillin LA 1.2 shots next week. That should be interesting.

Most of our detoxing and antiinfective killing is happening at night when we are supposed to sleep. So in the morning we are flooded with neurotoxins that need to be eliminated. I lived with the same problem for a time until I figured out to up my intake of binding agents/mop up agents before every meal and before going to bed.

I have listed many of them over the years -
chlorella, Ecklonia cava, betasitosterol, Destroxin, Cholestyramine (if you can handle it -many cannot), Pectin, lots of fiber, charcoal if really problematic, ground up yellow flax, even potato peel, etc.

If you are neglecting the binding agents, chances that you meet the same neurotoxins again the next day and the next day are good. Binding agents are probably one of the most neglected helpers.

Make certain that your sleeping area is free of EMF, fuses pulled, no computer running, electrical equipment in the room, etc. We are such sensitive creatures and need to avoid all that for the time being.
