Can anyone here equaute an elevated cortisol level with nerve pain or neuropathy? BTW, dx'd with Lyme/Bart.
I can have awful neuropathic sx's, but they really fluctuate. For example, when in certain physical positions and VERY calm, the pain is MUCH less and even non-existent at certain times of the day. Also, I can get very flushed at times (male, age 39) and the nerve pain instantly gets worse.
However, when angered, frightened, shocked, the burning sensations are much greater.
Was curious if the adrenal glands could have a part in this? I know there are inexpensive adrenal meds that lower cortisol, has anyone's Doctor gone this route to deal with this type of pain?
Thanks, MBB3

Me too-but I also don't have an answer. I know that the epinephrine that is excreted by the adrenals during stress really messes me up as well-heart palps., shaking, anxiety. And any little thing can trigger it. Then the muscles start twitching, tingling, etc.
Cortisol and the other glucocorticoids have a potent anti-inflammatory effect on the body. They depress the immune response, especially cell-mediated immune responses. Maybe it's corisol's immune suppressing effect that allows the spirochetes to go "wild".
